With the convergence of IN and IP traditional network management systems have been replaced by a variety of standards. New principles of management have also emerged. Related to these changes new alternative network management techniques are needed. There are a lot of efforts in management protocols improvement based on advanced computer simulation techniques. But, there is a lack in the development of fundamental theoretical models for management architectures. To remedy the situation we develop an analytical modelling tool for the converged network management. More precisely, we implement a queuing model on the application layer to perform effectively a signalling management into both parts of the converged SIP- and IN-based network. We model this distributed management configuration as a finite source queuing model. Furthermore, we evaluate the steady-state performance measures such as expected waiting time and time in system, and present numerical results providing corresponding curves for them.

The traditional service management techniques and frameworks are inadequate for handling new-generation integrated applications and cross-enterprise business processes and services. There is a need for management architecture that can provide real-time visibility and control from the application and data levels through the dynamic service and business process levels. The Service Delivery Platform (SDP) is the proper, but still not obvious, choice for such a management architecture. As yet, there is no standard definition for SDP or for its constituent components. In this paper, we identify both the current boundaries of SDP and the concepts importance. We classify and analyse the components and the relations between the elements of this management framework, and visualise the results of our analysis through the reference architecture. Through our representation of the service management framework, we also provide a rational view of the whole service delivery environment.

Contemporary service enterprises face challenges of the rapidly evolving technologies and business environments. Thus, the precise analysis and the accurate planning can be a key to the selection of the “right” strategies for IT investments and the implementation of any new technologies. Consequently, the purpose of this paper is to contribute to the profiling and development a “Fail-safe” (i.e., Consistent) Service-oriented formal model to support architectural decisions in service enterprise planning, and dynamic business activities managing by “Fault-tolerant” design. Furthermore, the objective is to construct a “process/formal model” that can be applied by services providers in assignments concerning enterprise architecture, or IT architecture, planning and development. And, in turn, the goal of the “process/formal model” is to cover both areas of activity: the planning and enterprise processes effective management and development with a dependable (i.e., “Fault-tolerant”) methodology to save time and resources along the life-cycle.

Based on an extensive examining of different industrial and research resources we have recognized that SOA is one of the most progressive IT concepts in the enterprise management. Besides, the rise of social networking in the enterprise, the adoption of Enterprise 2.0, and the use of mobile applications in business are influencing the enterprise SOA development. Thus, in this paper, we focus onto the evaluating the role and place of SOA in new generation of enterprise management paradigm, which highly relies onto the social collaboration tools. Namely, we investigate here integration challenges of main services delivery strategies. Also, we perform an analysis of SOA role in the enterprise social collaboration platform. Next, we define impact factors of social networking and social SOA onto corporate world including placement of a social collaboration layer in new enterprise architecture. And finally, additionally to SOA strategy, we introduce a syndication-oriented architecture concept, defined as a middleware for connecting applications to users, and explore its importance for enterprise collaboration platform.

Cloud computing has evolved and is expected to grow further into an enormously booming market segment especially for start-ups and SMEs as they can benefit from the concept of “Anything as a Service” (XaaS) without the need to invest significant financial resources in IT capabilities. Through the usage-based models, seemingly infinite resources based on rapid elasticity, multi-user systems, and the ability to access the network anytime and anywhere, organizations can achieve increased cost-effectiveness and efficiency in their business operations. This paper discusses, with a particular emphasis on start-ups and SMEs in the B2B and B2C markets, how e-business value creation drivers such as novelty, efficiency, complementarities and lock-in can leverage and enhance business value in practice. Using the example of the textile and apparel industry, this paper pinpoints how cloud computing can foster an environment in which new opportunities can blossom and added values are created for both businesses and consumers through modern marketing and networking technologies using an inclusive social and technological environment.

Service economy, service science, service-dominant logic and servitization are apparently related terms. All of them emerged and are located in different disciplines, which do not ease things at all. Accordingly, this paper provides on the one side a fundamental theoretical background on these topics, and on the other side facilitates subsequent research by providing some reference points. At the beginning, the topic of service economy and its increasing share on total employment are elaborated to show its current importance. Consequently, the notion and definition of the term service is conducted, which is followed by the discussion about goods, their differences to service and the drivers for the transition to a service-dominant economy. Furthermore, the concept of business models and its’ varying characteristics are reviewed, since they play a major role in service economy. And, the last section leads finally over to the intrinsic topic such as research approaches on the Services.

Enterprises deploy SOA for the cost-effective flexibility and enhanced usage of legacy IT. But, the shift to SOA does not come easy and cheap. Building an effective SOA platform requires tight integration between new and existing product categories, and it may require large investments. Therefore, conventional investment valuation methods need to be combined with other modern techniques to reflect SOA’s long-term strategic investment nature, the inherent uncertainty and the managerial discretion. Some emerging value-based analytical methodologies have started to be developed extensively under the umbrella concept of Business Value Analysis (BVA). However, BVA is not yet a wholly integrated and the theoretical foundation for it needs to be strengthened. Thus, in this paper, we apply modified CVP/BEP method developed under the BVA umbrella for the evaluation of SOA projects, in particular for the services reuse.

Aligning information systems to financial key performance indicators and measure its returns has become one of the most important topics over the last years. However, despite the growing investments of many corporations into IT in general, an increasing number of questions and concerns have been arising to the effectiveness of these investments and their payoffs. Hence, an evaluation of an enterprises IT architecture, as a part of IT investments, has been increasing its role throughout organizations worldwide. Numerous conceptual studies and tools to predict the business value of IT/SOA investment portfolios are being offered; nevertheless most of them substantially lack accuracy. For this purpose, we empirically investigate the application of SOA investment criteria in large Austrian corporations, which will be realized through a multiple case study collection reflecting current investment strategies and measurements.

Mobile technology has undergone a drastical evolution within the past few years. Cell phones with small monochrome displays-designed solely for phone calls and text messaging-have turned into miniaturized computers with dual-core processors. Combined with 3G standards such as UMTS, mobile devices nowadays offer almost the same freedom in exploring the Internet as desktop PCs do. Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Android, and the availability of mobile broadband Internet have changed the mobile landscape, and-as a consequence-the way in which mobile services are delivered to their users. Thus, we focus in this paper on the theory and implementation of four distinct platform models for mobile service delivery. Furthermore, we perform a classification of platform agility features-business and technology oriented-along with a comparative analysis of their effectiveness.

The intensification of collaborative networking in the enterprises, wide adoption of mobile applications and other progressive IT technologies by businesses, influence enterprise development. Thus, we focus in this paper onto the evaluating the role and place of communication&collaborative platforms in new generation of enterprise management paradigm dependent onto the social collaboration tools. Explicitly, we consider here integration challenges of main collaboration strategies. Besides, we analyze the role of different advanced IT technologies in the enterprise social collaboration platform. Next, we define impact factors of social networking onto corporate world including placement of a social collaboration layer in new enterprise architecture. And finally, we conclude with presentation of our findings along with further research strategies discussion.
