Rogério Antônio Bellé; Edileusa Kersting da Rocha; Fernanda Alice Antonello Londero Backes; Mauricio Neuhaus; Natalia Teixeira Schwab

The objectives of this study were to test the effects of different plant densities on stem characteristics in two growing seasons: Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer. The plant densities evaluated were 48, 64, 80, 96, 112 and 128plants m-2. The Fall/Winter growing season was from 04/04/2008 to 23/08/2008 and the Spring/Summer growing season was from 03/10/2008 to 23/12/2008. Total and partial plant height did not differ among plant densities in the Fall/Winter growing season. However, in the Spring/Summer growing season total plant height had a quadratic response to increase in plant population whereas the partial height did not vary. In the Fall/Winter cultivation, plants presented larger stems and branches diameter, branches length and total number of nodes main stem and branches diameters, number and length of branches, fresh and dry mass decreased as density increased in the two growing seasons. The capitulums diameter decreased as density increased in the Fall/Winter growing season, but at the Spring/Summer growing season it decreased in the density from 48 to 96plants m-2 and increased in the density from 112 a 128plants m-2.

The objective of this work was to determine the growing seasons, in a subtropical environment, when it is possible to produce gladiolus ( Gladiolus x grandiflorus ) stems that meet commercial, quantitative standards for cut flowers of the national market. Two field experiments were carried out – one from August 2011 to July 2012, and the other from August 2012 to July 2013 – with three gladiolus cultivars and 12 planting dates for each experiment. Stem total length, rachis length, and stem diameter were evaluated at the harvesting point, when the petal color appears in the first three florets at the stem base. The best months for production of gladiolus stems are July, August, September, February, March, and April, although in the other planting dates the stem quality was never below the minimum standard (except for the periods of frost during heading).

GESTÃO DE RESÍDUOS E A INDÚSTRIA DE BENEFICIAMENTO DE ARROZ

Daniel Benitti Lorenzett; Mauricio Neuhaus; Natalia Teixeira Schwab

Nereu Augusto Streck; Natalia Teixeira Schwab

Plant vegetative development has been widely described using the phyllochron concept, but little effort has been made to describe flower development during the reproductive phase. The objective of this work was to present the anthochron, through a review of the literature, as a building block of flower development, mainly during the flower opening phase. The anthochron is the time interval needed for two subsequent flowers to achieve the same developmental stage, with units of time in days or in oC day per flower. The concept of anthochron fulfills part of the lack of studies on flower development, since it is considered a building block of the flower opening process. The anthochron can be measured from field experiments or estimated by a simple linear regression analysis. So far, the anthochron has only been quantified in Gladiolus x grandiflorus Hort. Therefore, factors affecting the anthochron still need to be determined in order to pinpoint their effect on the flower opening rate.

The student’s expectations correspond to the expectations regarding to training and professional active in the market, while the perceptions of the training process as they relate to the skills required to perform a given profession are met and if the student feels able to develop them further. The aim of this study was to analyze the perceptions and expectations of students of the College Technician Landscaping Polytechnic UFSM on their own training. Students in the earlier half of the course represent greater confidence and determination as to their training compared to students from the initial semesters, showing the evolution of perceptions and expectations during the trajectory. The course includes partially analyzed the provisions of the political pedagogical project, since the skills relating to the jurisdiction of one of the modules are reported difficulty with the students. Key-words: job, motivation, questionnaires.
