Summary Secondary phosphine oxides react with vinyl sulfides (both alkyl- and aryl-substituted sulfides) under aerobic and solvent-free conditions (80 °C, air, 7–30 h) to afford 1-hydroxy-2-(organosulfanyl)ethyl(diorganyl)phosphine oxides in 70–93% yields.

Elemental sulfur reacts with primary phosphines and various amines in the 3:1:2 molar ratio under mild conditions (60°C, 10 min, ethanol) to afford hitherto unknown organylammonium trithiophosphonates in 84–91% yields.

Dimethyl disulfide reacts with acetylene under atmospheric pressure in basic reductive systems MOH (M=Na, K)–N2H4 · H2O–N-methylpyrrolidone and Na2S · 9H2O–N2H4 · H2O–N-methylpyrrolidone to form methyl vinyl sulfide in up to 79% yield.
