In our day today activities we all are facing intentional violence related activities; may be because many people believe that violence is the most effective way of solving the problems. Therefore in this study we have tried to find out certain passive factors like time of violence and type of areas/location preferred for intentional violence so that government/law enforcing agencies can take specific measures for its prevention. All the Medico-legal cases of Intentional violence which came to emergency in my duty hours over a period of 2 years were included in the study. It was observed that violence related injuries occurred mostly in the evening hours. Most of the cases i.e. 77.5% were brought by the relatives directly to the hospital followed only by 15.5% by police. The maximum cases of violence whether it is youth violence or enmity type of violence the most common place of occurrence is open place (field/play ground). To the curb the intentional violence related activities there is need to create more people friendly environment and identifying these the hot spots and time of violence in their own city by law enforcing that area.

In India, with rapid urbanization and migration of people, frustration, greed, intolerance and urge to achieve much in a short span has resulted in escalation in number of cases of assault in emergency department. Violence in any form, be it intentional or non intentional, results in morbidity or disability leading to financial losses or decrease in quality of life. So, in the present study, an attempt has been made to know the disability quotient resulting due to intentional violence in Amritsar district. The medicolegal study was conducted in the emergency department over the period of 2 years during which disability rate & average number of wounds per person per intentional violent act was calculated. We have also found that if a sharp weapon has been used then there are more chances of repeated attack i.e. they attack the victim with sharp edged weapon more than once and majority of the victims are at a great risk of receiving grievous injury.

Rigor mortis is considered to be one of the early signs of death. Rigor mortis or post-mortem stiffening is a physico-chemical process involving both voluntary and involuntary muscles of the body. Though it is a reliable tool of estimating post-mortem interval, its onset, development and disappearance is affected by many external and internal factors. Temperature and humidity of the place from where body is recovered or where it remains after death plays an important role in the development of rigor mortis, which further affects the estimation of post-mortem interval.

Domestic violence is one of the most common types of violence that occurs behind closed doors and sometimes in public. The innate desire of humans to control and have power over others results in practising this control over their near and dear ones. Domestic violence is considered to have occurred when one intimate partner uses physical violence, coercion, threats, intimidation, isolation and/or emotional, sexual and economic abuses over the other to maintain power and control. Other names of domestic violence include, partner violence, relationship violence, intimate partner abuse, spouse abuse, domestic abuse, wife abuse or wife beating and battering. It encompasses violence against both men and women and includes gay and lesbian relationships. It has a widespread prevalence across all countries, irrespective of social, economic, religious or cultural division. Women are generally the sufferers/victims of abuse, as from olden times the socio-cultural environment is so inclined towards patriarchy and masculinity that they justify wife beating as a part of male supremacy.
