One-step apexification using platelet rich fibrin matrix and mineral trioxide aggregate apical barrier.

Anisha Kumar; Amit Yadav; Neeta Shetty

The absence of a natural apical constriction in a nonvital young permanent tooth makes endodontic treatment a challenge. There is a need to induce or create an apical barrier against, which the obturating material can be condensed. Traditionally, calcium hydroxide is the material of choice to induce apexification. Due to certain drawbacks such as prolonged treatment duration and unpredictable apical barrier formation, it is being replaced by materials, which have a more predictable outcome like mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). One-step apexification with MTA reduces the treatment time when compared with traditional calcium hydroxide apexification, which requires an average time of 12-19 months. In one-step apexification using MTA, the technical problem encountered is controlling the overfill or underfill of MTA. The use of a matrix material helps to overcome this shortcoming. Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) is an immune platelet concentrate, which can be used as a matrix, it also promotes wound healing and repair. This case report presents a case of one step apexification using MTA as an apical barrier and autologous PRF as an internal matrix.

Fractured tooth rebonding: A ultra-conservative approach

Amit Yadav; Neeta Shetty

Majority of the traumatic dental injuries involves the anterior teeth specially the maxillary incisors. Rebonding of the fractured fragment to the tooth retrieved in a fairly intact condition provides an ultra-conservative treatment option. Rebonding techniques provide good esthetics, restores immediate function and provides positive psychological support to the patient. With the introduction of resin based material and the mono block concept, rebonding is a feasible treatment procedure. These case reports discuss the techniques for rebonding fractured fragment to the tooth in a very conservative and cost-effective manner. Clinical Relevance to Interdisciplinary Dentistry Management of traumatic injuries requires a multidisciplinary approach. Fractured fragment rebonding where the fracture line violates the biological width will require periodontal procedures such as osteotomy, crown lengthening and gingivectomy to be carried out. With the advancement in materials and techniques fractured fragment rebonding offers a viable restorative option for the clinician which restores immediate esthetics using an ultra-conservative approach.

Periodontal attachment loss in the maxillary anterior region can often lead to esthetic and functional clinical problems. Lifelong motivation is essential to the supportive therapy for these patients, and the maintenance of good esthetics, combined with conducive to maintaining long term dental and professional health. This paper aims to demonstrate an innovative treatment option for dealing with aesthetic challenges posed by a number of patients who have undergone initial cause related therapy for aggressive periodontitis.

Midline Diastema Closure by Interdisciplinary Approach-A Case Report

Ashutosh Mishra; M Kundabala; Neeta Shetty; Kamakshi Alekhya; Sangeetha U Nayak

Midline diastema closure is an esthtic and technical challenge for clinicians. Various materials are available for diastema closure. Case should be should be carefully analysed with proper history for for etilogical factors and best possible treatment plan. High frenal attachment Proper communication with patients for their choice regarding various treatment options in detail should be done, before moving forward with any treatment plan. Even though it seems to be a simple procedure, restoring the teeth to close the diastema without gingival inflammation, without creating any ledges or overhangs which irritates the periodontal structures and presence of “black triangles”, is quite difficult. This article summarizes the technique of closure of diastema using direct resin composite with interdisciplinary approach.

Adithya Sanapala; Kundabala M; Neeta Shetty; L. N. V. Kamakshi Alekhya; Neetha Shetty

Endodontically treated teeth, if have to be function adequately, they have to be restored appropriately depending on the esthetic and functional needs. Moreover, medical history, caries susceptibility and periodontal conditions have to be evaluated, which have major role to play in the success of post endodontic restoration. If all these factors are being satisfactory, a comprehensive treatment can be planned. The present case report describes a management of fractured, endodontically treated tooth using a cost effective, conservative method with multidisciplinary approach

Visual Acuity of Dentists Under Simulated Clinical Conditions-A Cross-sectional Study

Shikha Sharma; Kundabala M; Ramya Shenoy; Neeta Shetty

Introduction: The quality of work carried out by the dentists depends upon a variety of factors out of which knowledge, experience, training, visual acuity and manual dexterity play a distinctive role. Good eyesight for dental professionals is essential to improve their learning, clinical performance and also to provide the best dental care for patients. Aim & Objectives: The present study was carried out with an aim to test the visual acuity and its influence on age in dental professionals in a simulated clinical condition. Materials & Method: Study involved a total no. of 105 dental students and teachers between the age group of 20-40years. The visual acuity was tested using a Snellen chart mounted in a class II proximal cavity in a molar tooth and was recorded at a fixed and variable distance, comparing the visual acuity with age in subjects with and without refractive errors. Conclusion: Visual acuity evaluation of dentists using the Snellen chart showed that there was definitely a poor acuity of vision in all the experimental age groups above 20years of age with no statistical significant association between various age groups for the fixed as well as variable distance. Additionally, there was no association between visual acuity of various age groups and refractory errors
