Acute hemodynamic effects of adult renal allografts on neonatal puppies

Scott J. Boley; Frank J. Veith; Nehlsen Sl; Marvin L. Gliedman

Abstract Adult dog kidneys were transplanted to neonatal puppies with survival of the recipients and function of the transplant. The acute changes in cardiac output, blood volume, central venous, and systemic arterial pressures were neither significant nor consistent. The large tissue volume of the transplant appeared to have no serious adverse effect on the puppys cardiovascular system. These experiments support the feasibility of transplanting adult kidneys to neonates with inadequate renal function.
