EFECTO DEL ÁCIDO ASCÓRBICO DURANTE MADURACIÓN IN VITRO DE OOCITOS BOVINOS EN LA PRODUCCIÓN DE ESPECIES REACTIVAS DE OXÍGENO (ERO) Y COMPETENCIA PARA EL DESARROLLO EMBRIONARIO

In this study the effects of fetal calf serum (FCS), bovine serum albumin (BSA), and the antioxidants alpha tocopherol (AT) and ascorbic acid (AA), on the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in culture media, in vitro matured (IVM) bovine oocytes and the rate of embryo development were evaluated. The culture conditions were as follows: incubation at 38.5°C, with 5%CO2 and 95% of humidity. The results showed higher production of ROS in culture media supplemented with FCS (p 0.05).AA and AT showed antioxidant effect on culture media containing serum and in success rate of IVM oocytes, but AA only improved the developmental competence of oocytes. This result provides evidence on the importance of reducing ROS production during IVM for improvement of in vitro bovine embryo production.
