Ytterbium perfluorooctanoate [Yb(PFO)3] was found to be an efficient catalyst for the microwave assisted synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthene-11-ones by the one-pot condensation of 2-naphthol, aldehydes and 1,3-dicarbonyl compound under solvent-free conditions. The major advantages of this novel method are short reaction time, high yields, reusability of the catalyst and the absence of any volatile and hazardous organic solvents.

A novel series of α-aminophosphonates containing the trifluoromethyl aniline moiety were obtained in high yields by condensation of 2-methyl-3-trifluoromethyl aniline, aryl/heteroaryl aldehydes and dimethylphosphite in the presence of chitosan as a catalyst. The molecular modeling studies revealed their important structural features of binding affinities towards the target enzyme. The cytotoxicity of these compounds was evaluated against PC-3(prostate cancer), MCF-7 (breast cancer), HeLa(cCervix Cancer), U973, K562 and HL60 human lLeukemia cell lines. Compound 4k with a pyrene moiety showed high potency against a breast cancer cell line, while compounds 4g and 4k exhibited more promising cytotoxicity against U973, K562 and HL60 cell lines.

Abstract KHSO4 is an efficient catalyst for the condensation of β-naphthol, aromatic aldehydes, and 5,5-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione at 100°C to afford 9,9-dimethyl-12-phenyl-8,10,11,12-tetrahydro-9H-benzo[a]xanthen-11-one derivatives in 80–95% yields.

An efficient one-pot synthesis of bioactive pyrazolylphosphonates is accomplished by the reaction of 3-methyl-1-phenyl-2-pyrazoline-5-one with various aryl aldehydes and diethyl phosphite in the presence of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as a catalyst. The compounds were tested for their anti-oxidant activity by DPPH and H2O2 radical scavenging assay and for anticancer activity against breast cancer (MCF-7), prostate cancer (DU-145) and lung cancer (A-549) cell lines with sulfarodamine-B (SRB) assay. Most of the synthesized compounds showed promising anti-oxidant activity and significant anticancer activity when compared with the standard drugs.

ABSTRACT The synthesis of new α-aminophosphonates 4a-j (diethyl((dialkoxyphosphoryl)(phenyl)methyl)phosphoramidates) were achieved through a one pot simple and efficient method from the three-component condensation reaction (Kabachnik-Fields reaction) of diethyl phosphoramidate, aryl salicylaldehydes, and dialkyl phosphite by using microwave irradiation under solvent-free and catalyst-free conditions in good to excellent yields and short reaction times. The structures of the novel products were established by IR, 1H, 13C & 31P-NMR and Mass spectroscopy. All the synthesized compounds were screened their antimicrobial activity. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT
