This letter presents a mutual coupling reduction method between two J-shaped folded monopole antennas (JFMA), which cover Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), especially for IEEE 802.11b/g band on handset. IEEE 802.11b/g is used to 2.4GHz (2400-2484MHz) band. We proposed an effective method to reduce mutual coupling by using a bridge line that links two antennas. As the analytical results, by linking the shorting strips of two JFMA elements with a bridge line, we obtained a sufficiently reduced mutual coupling and improved total antenna efficiency.

As a fundamental study of the helmet antenna for disasters operated at 150 MHz, a circular planar folded dipole antenna has been examined. To begin with the helmet antenna structure is constituted by bending a dipole antenna into the shape of the circle on the plane for simplicity. As a result, it is made clear that adjusting the impedance of the helmet antenna is possible by changing the distance of the antenna tip since the impedance transformation of the dipole antenna can easily be achieved. In addition, it is confirmed that the resonant frequency can be lowered by adjusting the antenna elements on the limited circular plane[1][2].

Several structures of J-shaped folded monopole antenna (JFMA) are investigated on lowering frequency and wider bandwidth to apply LTE (Long Term Evolution) 700 MHz band (699~960 MHz). As a result, the proposed model covers bandwidth for 822~960 MHz in VSWR≤3, with a small antenna volume as 10 × 50 × 5 mm3.

In this paper, particle swarm optimization (PSO) is applied to optimize dimension parameters of U-shaped folded dipole antenna (UFDA) assumed to be used inside an USB dongle for WiMAX. By adopting effective formulations of two different objective functions to PSO, shapes of the ground plane and the antenna element are optimized respectively to achieve broadband characteristic of UFDA in each case.

This paper introduces the simple method of using PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) to find an optimum shape for the ground plane (GP) of U-shaped fold dipole antenna (UFDA) for WiMAX to get the good VSWR characteristic in the low-profile case of the antenna element.
