Evidence for the association of Hashimoto's thyroiditis with psoriasis: a cross-sectional retrospective study.

Current information indicates that psoriasis is a metabolic disorder with systemic manifestations. Reports have revealed an association between psoriasis and several chronic autoimmune disorders. For one of these disorders, Hashimotos thyroiditis (HT), there are scarce, and relatively unconfirmed, reports of an association with psoriasis. We sought to determine if such an association is detectable in a large medical record data repository.

To the Editor: Conflicting evidence exists for the risk of malignant melanoma (MM) subsequent to chronic aspirin exposure. Although a study in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology demonstrated that chronic aspirin exposure before and after MM diagnosis in a large midwestern US population was associated with overall prolonged survival, the risk of MM subsequent to chronic aspirin exposure remains uncertain. Systemic biologic and nonbiologic agents used to treat psoriasis may or may not contribute to serious infection (SI) risk. Safety data, particularly for biologic agents, and associated risk for SI, are scarce.
