An efficient approach for providing update information among networked appliances

To establish a network service, networked appliances need to exchange among themselves relevant information such as device capabilities, table of contents and control commands. Although UPnP provides a scheme for exchanging information and issuing commands, it’s not an appropriate scheme for providing update information because of a heavyweight protocol. In this paper we propose an efficient approach to provide update information of networked appliances that includes a resource limited device such as a sensor, and we suggest several applications using the distributed update information as meta-data of RSS.
