Though it is easy to resect the medial shelf, it is dificult to make a correct diagnosis for the shelf disorder.Arthroscopic shelf resection for the D type medial shelf was performed on 13 knees of 13 patients.Based on these arthroscopic and clinical findings, the cause of poor results after shelf operation was discussed. Our conclusions are:1. It is very difficult to make a clinical diagnosis before operation.2. Its seems that misdiagnosis is often the cause of poor results.

Meniscal lesions caused by sports accidents were observed by arthroscopy in 95 knees. Of these cases 36 (38%) knees had associated anterior cruciate ligament injuty. The examination of arthroscopic findings suggested the following conclusion.1. Time after initial injury or presence of anterior cruciate insufficiency influences the pattern and the location of meniscus lesion. 2. The medial meniscus with anterior cruciate insufficiency has high risk of secondary injury. 3. In sports activity, it is difficult to prevent primary injury, however, it is possible and beneficial to prevent secondary injury.

The average age of the patients at the time of surgery was 20 years. Almost all patients showed good clinical results at follow-up of more than 6 months.
