Optimal bidding strategy for multiperiod electricity market with consideration of PV prediction uncertainty

Tu Bo; Takayuki Ishizaki; Masakazu Koike; Nobuyuki Yamaguchi; Jun-ichi Imura

In this paper, we formulate an optimal bidding problem in a multiperiod electricity market with the consideration of the PV profile uncertainty. Based on the bidding strategy, the aggregator aims to obtain the highest profit by submitting a prosumption curve to the market, which includes both the amount of energy demanding and provision. With the concerning of the different PV profiles, two bidding strategies are formulated, the Worst-Case Strategy and Average Profile Strategy. Expectation criterion is employed to help decision making without the consideration of the potential risk. To mitigate the risk effect, we propose an aggregator budget-based analysis approach. Numerical simulations indicate that the strategy preference can be alternative under particular budget, which is related to the scale of the aggregator of interest.

Fundamental analysis of temperature-based transmission capacity constraints with high-penetration of PV generation considering a spatial smoothing effect

Hideharu Sugihara; Tsuyoshi Funaki; Nobuyuki Yamaguchi

With extremely high penetration of intermittent renewable energy sources into power systems, transmission line currents are subject to significant fluctuation. However, in present power systems, the continuously allowable current in the line is generally determined on the basis of a steady-state line current condition. This paper evaluates transmission line capacity based on line conductor temperature and compares this with conventional line current constraints. Particularly, the authors utilize a low-pass filter model based on the transfer hypothesis from synchronized fluctuations to random fluctuations in order to consider the smoothing effect of solar irradiation. Through numerical simulation, we evaluate the influence of the smoothing effect on the difference between the conventional current limit and the proposed temperature-based transmission capacity limit.
