Physical properties of the ternary mixture ethanol + water + 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride at 298.15 K

Elena Gómez; Noelia Calvar; Irene Domínguez; A. Domínguez

In this work, densities and refractive indices of the ternary mixture ethanol + water + 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([C6mim][Cl]) and of the binary systems containing the ionic liquids (ILs) have been measured at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. Excess molar volumes and changes of refractive indices on mixing were determined from experimental data. The binary data were correlated with the Redlich–Kister equation, while the Cibulka equation was applied for the ternary system.

Thermal Behaviour of Pure Ionic Liquids

Elena Gómez; Noelia Calvar; Ángeles Domínguez

The interest in ionic liquids (ILs) that has developed during in the past few decades is wellrecognized. This interest has developed mainly due to their special properties such as high thermal stability, high electrical conductivity, high heat capacity per unit volume, wide temperature range in a liquid state, good solvent properties and especially their negligible vapour pressure, which render them popular compounds. This popularity is reflected in the great deal of publications that relate the potential applications of ILs in different fields, among which can be highlighted their use as solvents, electrochemical applications and more recently, as heat transfer fluids.

Modeling of Ionic Liquid Systems: Phase Equilibria and Physical Properties

Filipa M. Maia; Noelia Calvar; Emilio J. González; Aristides P. Carneiro; Oscar Rodríguez; Eugénia A. Macedo

Ionic liquids (ILs) are a class of salts with a melting temperature below 100 °C, and the study of these compounds is considered priority by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Due to their specific properties, which can be adjusted by changing either the cation or the anion, ILs have received great attention by the scientific community as potential replace‐ ments for volatile organic solvents (VOCs), and nowadays, ILs are starting to leave academ‐ ic labs and find their way into a wide variety of industrial applications [1]. For example, ILs are used for the dispersion of nano-materials at IOLITEC, Air Products uses ILs instead of pressurized cylinders as a transport medium for reactive gases, ION Engineering is com‐ mercializing technology using ILs and amines for CO2 capture and natural gas sweetening, and many others.
