A Conceptual Model Towards Information Security Culture in Health Informatics

Noor Hafizah Hassan; Zuraini Ismail

Despite the widely recognized importance of information security as vital assets in organization, there is a little understanding of how organizations actually promote information security culture among the employees in a particular environment. The diversity of problems facing the public-service organization is paramount than before because of competitive growth of services and rapid changes in technology. As information technology is widely adopted, the health organization must undergo boundless transformation to fulfil the nation’s demand yet provide a good information security. This research looks into the social aspects of information security. It further identifies key factors influencing the information security culture in health informatics. A review based on multiple definitions and descriptions of security culture from a previous study was conducted. This study proposes a conceptual model taking into consideration the influencing factors in information security culture that is developed based on Detert organizational culture model and health belief model (HBM). This in-progress study suggests organization in promoting information security culture particularly for health informatics. The proposed conceptual model will be further evaluated with selected healthcare organization.

Noor Hafizah Hassan; Zuraini Ismail; Norazean Maarop

Digital innovations have now made it possible for healthcare organization to transform their task to use digital devices to access medical information, monitor vital signs tests, and carry out wide range of tasks to provide quality care. The tendency of information security incidents might increase due to this transformation. One of the solutions is by embedding employees with knowledge regarding information security. Previous literatures have examined knowledge management (KM) in general and omitted healthcare informatics perspective. However, knowledge sharing between employees in healthcare organization can be challenging as their background and expertise domains differ. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of key resistance factors in knowledge sharing towards information security culture in healthcare organization. Based on the secondary data collected, the key resistance factors identified are behavior, lack of trust, lack of communication, low security awareness, personality differences, cultural differences, lack of top management commitment, and openness to experience. A conceptual model was proposed to represent the key resistance factors identified. This in-progress study will proceed in testing the proposed conceptual model in selected healthcare organizations in Malaysia.

The Augmented Reality (AR) has existed for over five decades, but the growth and progress in the past few years has been exponentially increased and are getting more popular in recent years. Despite the importance and rapid growth of AR applications in a variety of fields, AR applications is not well known in a library setting. This paper aims to provide a systematic literature review (SLR) method to collect and review studies following a predefined procedure on AR application in a library setting. The review studies includes filtering relevant information of AR application from five databases to answer research questions. A total of 23 primary studies published between 2009 to 2017 were used in the analysis. Results from SLR shows that the most common categories of AR applications used in the libraries setting is reading materials and navigational.

Mobile payment framework for the unbanked Filipinos

Wardah Zainal Abidin; Oliver Rivera; Nurazean Maarop; Noor Hafizah Hassan

One of the best methods to reach geographically remote and unbanked population is through mobile services. With the prevalent use of mobile phones, most parts of the ASEAN countries can be reached and this is a promising setting for mobile payment growth. One such country is the Philippines. This study conducted a quantitative research via online survey among the unbanked Filipinos to determine the factors that influence the intention to use mobile payment services. The motivation for this quest is the extremely low usage of mobile payment services reported by the World Bank Global Findex which indicated that only four percent of the adult population have an active mobile payment account. A new theoretical framework is suggested to study this phenomenon using adaptations of the UTAUT2.

Information security culture in health informatics environment: A qualitative approach

Noor Hafizah Hassan; Norazean Maarop; Zuraini Ismail; Wardah Zainal Abidin

Information security culture is recognised as having an influence towards end-user compliance towards information security controls and policies in the organisation. Literature agrees that cultural beliefs can be found to influence behaviours among members of a profession that distinguish them in the organisational system and profession that they belong to. Therefore, these phenomena led towards the investigation and understanding of factors influencing information security culture in healthcare organisations. A qualitative approach has been conducted to evaluate the proposed conceptual model that hinges on Systematic Literature Review (SLR), organisational culture characteristics and Health Belief Model (HBM). A semi-structured interview has been conducted with 19 healthcare professionals. Twelve themes found to be the factors that may influence information security culture in health informatics environment. The study outcomes may contribute towards the design of an appropriate Information Security Management System (ISMS) for establishing information security culture in healthcare organisations.

Investigation of Key Resistance Factors in Knowledge Sharing Towards Information Security Culture in Healthcare Organization

Noor Hafizah Hassan; Zuraini Ismail

With the rapid technological change in health informatics environment, the security incidents are likely to occur. Thus make it important for the employee to acquire security knowledge to minimize the incidents. Previous literature addresses the issues on motivation towards the employee in knowledge sharing. Little has pay attention on the resistance factors that become the barrier in knowledge sharing in information security. This paper identifies the similarities of Knowledge Management (KM) and Information Security Management (ISM) according to previous literature. The purpose of this paper to investigate the key resistance factors in knowledge sharing towards information security culture healthcare organization. Based on secondary data collected, the key resistance factors identified are behavior, lack of trust, lack of communication, low security awareness, personality differences, cultural differences, lack of top management commitment and openness to experience. This in-progress study will be use to design a conceptual model to show the relationship between knowledge sharing and information security culture and further tested with selected healthcare organization.

Understanding Relationship Between Security Culture and Knowledge Management

Noor Hafizah Hassan; Zuraini Ismail; Nurazean Maarop

Despite the widely recognized importance of information security as a vital asset in an organization, there has been lack of understanding of how organizations actually cultivate security culture amongst the employees in a particular environment. Based on previous researches, the vast majority of information security incidents are caused by human factor, and not by flawed technology. Knowledge has been highlighted as one important parameter of the human factor in information security. Previous literature has suggested the Knowledge Management (KM) approach as one of the approaches to implement information security management. However, the knowledge dimension of information security management in the healthcare industry has been neglected. The goal of this paper is to investigate the relationship between security culture and KM. Thus, a conceptual model has been proposed to describe the relationship. The findings suggest that security culture may have a positive relationship with knowledge creation, knowledge sharing, and knowledge use through security behaviour. The proposed conceptual model will be further evaluated with selected healthcare organizations in Malaysia.
