Muhammad Z.I. Lallmahomed; Nor Zairah Ab. Rahim; Roliana Ibrahim; Azizah Abdul Rahman

This research examines the relationship between the predictors of use and the different conceptualizations of system use in a hedonic volitional setting (Facebook). Using the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model, an investigation into the three aspects of system use: the user, system and task were carried out. Results from a cross-sectional survey of 449 students show that behavioral intention has a significant influence on all aspects and dimensions of system use including cognitive absorption and deep structure use. Performance expectancy, effort expectancy and social influence are significantly related to system use. From the component model, performance expectancy is only significant with deep structure use. Hedonic performance expectancy is found to be significantly related to cognitive absorption. Results also demonstrate that predictors of usage have a significant relationship with the user aspect of system use. The variance explained in usage conceptualized as the user/task aspects is much higher than that of the system/task aspects or one-dimensional measures. Overall, conceptualizing system use using the user/task aspects offers greater explanatory power in Facebook use.

Marva Mirabolghasemi; Noorminshah A. Iahad; Nor Zairah Ab. Rahim

Social Network Sites (SNS) offer several benefits for all groups of people, particularly students. Based on previous studies, it is considered that studies on the usage of SNS among students in Malaysia are still limited. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to investigate the Positive Effects (Advantages) and Negative Effects (Disadvantages) of SNS in order to help students to take full advantages of such tools. Moreover, this study seeks to help students in avoiding its negative effects. This study conducted an online survey through Facebook and E-mail consisting of 55 questions among students from a public university in the southern region of peninsular Malaysia. The total number of respondents is one hundred and nine students. Factor analysis in this study identified three categories of SNS positive effects such as information seeking, social presence, and academic and social activities fulfilment; also four categories of SNS negative effects such as negative feelings, reduction of cognitive development, social isolation, and security concerns. The outcomes of this study expect to be a starting point intended for instructors to be aware of the positive and negative effects of SNS before engaging students in using SNS for teaching and learning activities.

An Application of the UTAUT Model for Understanding Acceptance and Use of ICT by Nigerian University Academicians

N. D. Oye; N. A. Iahad; Nor Zairah Ab. Rahim

This study examines the acceptance and use of ICT by Nigerian university academicians. The model validated is the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Using a pilot study, one hundred questionnaires were administered and collected at the University of Jos Plateau State, Nigeria. The construct was significantly correlated with behavioral intention (BI). This implies that the university ICT system makes tasks easier to accomplish, thereby making academicians more productive. The survey shows that 86.5% agree. Effort expectancy (EE) was significantly correlated with BI. The result shows that 84.3% agreed that they could use ICT. Among the four UTAUT constructs, performance expectancy exerted the strongest effect. The UTAUT model shows age effects for older workers and a stronger willingness for the younger workers to adopt new IT products. According to this study age and gender do not have significant effect on acceptance and use of ICT. Performance expectancy (PE) and Effort expectancy (EE) are found to be the most significant predictors of academic staffs’ acceptance of ICT and use.

Malaysian Public Service (MSP) is moving towards efficient citizen-centric and focus on enhancing productivity through a whole-of-government approach supported by a lean and agile organization, competent talent, effective delivery of projects, and efficient services of the local authority. In addition to that, to determine the right direction especially for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) thrust strategy is also one of main concern. Thus, common perceptive between Information Technology (IT) experts and decision makers are essential to ensure for high-quality decision making and coordinated organization achievement. The knowledge integration between IT experts and decision makers is crucial, must well-communicate and comprehensible by both parties. Through the initial study, the phenomena and challenges on knowledge communication process in MSP can be clearly understood.

Sohrab Khan; Nor Zairah Ab. Rahim; Nurazean Maarop

The recent evolvements in social media attracted governments around the world to utilize its benefits for providing e-government services and rebuild their relationship with citizens’ through participation and engagement. However, lack of citizens’ trust is still a serious concern that discourages them to participate in these services. Majority of previous studies on relationship with people and government were conducted on e-government websites. Very few studies have attempted to investigate citizens’ trust factors in context of using social media for e-government services particularly in a developing country like Pakistan. Therefore, this study is designed to bridge this gap by identifying such factors and propose a model from multiple perspectives of citizens trust. The proposed model will assist government organizations in understanding factors that may influence citizens trust to participate in social media for e-government services.

Ali Ahani; Nor Zairah Ab. Rahim; Mehrbakhsh Nilashi

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of social customer relationship management (CRM) adoption on firm performance in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) context. Accordingly, we develop a new adoption-performance model for social CRM strategy at the organization level. The proposed model of this study links technological, organizational, environmental and process factors to social CRM adoption and performance. The proposed hypotheses were verified by using structural equation modeling on a dataset of 240 SMEs across Kuala Lumper, the capital city of Malaysia. The results revealed that top management support, IT/IS knowledge of employee, cost, relative advantage, compatibility, customer pressure and competitive pressure are important drivers for social CRM adoption. Finally, this study confirms that there is a significant relationship between social CRM adoption and SMEs performance.

Rohaizan Daud; Nor Zairah Ab. Rahim; Roslina Ibrahim; Suraya Ya’acob

Planning for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) future in the context of Malaysian public service is in the hand of group of IT experts and decision makers. Both parties are responsible for making decisions and plan the future ICT direction of the organization. Therefore it is important to comprise common understanding between Information Technology (IT) experts and decision makers so it will lead to a better and comprehensive decision making. However, there are still lacks of studies to describe the parties’ potential to undertake the situation from the perspective of the knowledge integration of among IT experts and decision makers especially in term of communication. Therefore, it is an essential to develop further understanding on the knowledge communication idea. It is done by integrating the concept of both knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer. From the literature analysis, the study found knowledge sharing framework and knowledge transfer framework might influence to the knowledge communication model. Therefore further study is recommended to validate the knowledge communication conceptual model in the real organization setting.

In a constantly changing and evolving global and organizational environment, it is considered necessary to improve the skills of human resources. With a view to understand online training effectiveness among employees, a proposed model is extended from the existing related models based on the conceptual studies. The innovation of information technologies nowadays has contributed to the exponential expansion in business online training. This study uses case study in identifying current status of online training implementation in Malaysian public sectors and what are the criteria of online training implementation determined through different perception of stakeholders. This study was conducted to construct a research model on online training effectiveness qualitatively. In finding the gap of the study, several literatures on online training issues have been reviewed. Based on the literature review, the study posited four constructs adopted from Kirkpatrick’s learning theory through Multiple Perspectives Theory lens, which are believed can influence online training effectiveness. The proposed model will be used to understand multiple perspectives of online training implementation among employees in Malaysian public sectors.

Technology Aspects of E-Government Readiness in Developing Countries: A Review of the Literature

Mustafa Omar M. Baeuo; Nor Zairah Ab. Rahim; Asma Ali Mosa Alaraibi

The rapid global growth of the Internet and information technology has inspired many governments to transform their traditional services into electronic ones. Many governments are now developing, implementing and improving their strategies to transform government services using information and communication technologies (ICTs). E-Government, as it is known, has become a popular focus of government efforts in many developed countries and, more recently, in several developing countries. Further, e-government services have become a significant and active means for interaction among government, citizens and businesses. E-government comprises several dimensions, one of the main ones being e-government readiness. To put technology to effective use, a government must be “ready”. E-government readiness helps a government to measure its stages of readiness, identify its gaps, and then redesign its government strategy. One of the aspects of e- government readiness is that of technological readiness, which plays an important role in implementing an effective and efficient e- government project. This paper explores the gaps in current knowledge relating to the technological aspects of e-government readiness through the conduct of a literature review. In particular, the review focuses on the models and frameworks that have been developed to assess e-government readiness.

Impact of different conceptualisations of system use on Facebook continuance

Muhammad Z.I. Lallmahomed; Nor Zairah Ab. Rahim; Roliana Ibrahim; Azizah Abdul Rahman

This research examines the conceptualisations of system use and its impact on continuance intention to use Facebook. We investigate the relationship between the user, system and task aspect of system use, in the light of numerous calls to explore this construct. A cross-sectional survey of Facebook users was undertaken. This research shows that the user/task aspect of use has a higher relationship with satisfaction as compared to the three aspects combined and the user/system aspect of use has negligible effect on continuance. Moreover, we compare multidimensional and one-dimensional measures of use and our results indicate that one-dimensional measures explain more variance than a multidimensional one. Thus, discarding one-dimensional measures outright may not be appropriate in every context. The most significant predictor of continuance is volume of use and that of satisfaction is cognitive absorption. We discuss the implications of these findings for research and practice and offer recommendations for future research.
