The sum formula is one of the most well-known relations among multiple zeta values. This paper proves a conjecture of Kaneko predicting that an analogous formula holds for finite multiple zeta values.

The multiple zeta values are natural generalization of Riemann zeta values, which are real numbers first considered by Euler. It is known that there are many linear relations among these values with rational coefficients. Hoffman [Multiple harmonic series, Pacific J. Math.152 (1992) 275–290] gives a class of relations among multiple zeta values, which is called Hoffmans relation. In this paper, we show the corresponding relation for multiple zeta-star values by using partial-fractions expansion as Hoffman did.

The polynomials interpolating multiple zeta values and multiple zeta-star values using a parameter t were introduced by Yamamoto. We call these t-MZVs. In this paper, we establish the shuffle product for t-MZVs to prove Hoffman type relation and double shuffle relation for t-MZVs.
