A digital HDTV receiver with home networking function and digital content storage

Noriya Sakamoto; Kazuhiko Muguruma; Naozumi Koshino; Shunichi Chiba; Masaru Sakurai

We have developed a network content sharing feature on a digital television receiver, where digital contents are shared and transferred with either NBT/SMB or UPnP/HTTP on the home network. Some of the trick play mode can be performed on either protocol. Copyright protection of the digital contents is performed by either local content protection technology or DTCP-IP.

A wide screen EDTV

Kiyoyuki Kawai; Seijirou Yasuki; Noriya Sakamoto

A novel EDTV (extended-definition television) system using three-dimensional filtering techniques has been proposed. A wide-screen TV signal with 5.6 MHz bandwidth can be encoded within a 4.2 MHz baseband using three multiplexing techniques. The feasibility of the approach has been verified by computer simulation. The encoded signal will be compatible with most existing broadcasting equipment, since the signal format is fully compatible with the NTSC signal standard. >

A high performance EDTV system

Kiyoyuki Kawai; Seijiro Yasuki; Noriya Sakamoto; Yoshihiko Ogawa

An encoder and a decoder, consisting of a wide screen EDTV system compatible with current NTSC equipment, have been developed. The system, however, showed some problems that required attention. Therefore, an advanced EDTV system, consisting of an improved wide screen EDTV system and an advanced scan converting system, was developed. The former improves picture quality of the side panels and extends horizontal resolution of the center panel. The latter improves vertical resolution without the motion artifact observed in a conventional scan converter. >

A transport stream processor for HDD recording and playback of HDTV signal

Masaru Sakurai; Hiroyuki Nagata; Masahiro Yamada; Noriya Sakamoto

This paper describes the architecture of the transport stream processor system for the digital HDTV receiver with HDD recording capability. The transport stream processor consists of a RISC processor, a content protection circuit, an IDE controller, and a bus interface. The transport stream processor generates the low clock rate partial transport streams by utilizing the bit rate control algorithm with the recording information table and the modulo algorithm. This system realizes a high-speed signal processing of multiple HDTV transport streams for HDD recording and playback for the storage digital broadcasting.

A transport stream processing LSI for HDD recording and playback of HDTV

Hiroyuki Nagata; Masahiro Yamada; Noriya Sakamoto; Masaru Sakurai

This paper describes a transport stream control LSI for digital HDTV receivers with HDD recording capability. A high performance HDD playback function using the partial transport stream is realized by a special designed RISC processor and the bitrate control algorithm in this new LSI.
