Abstract Terpeptin, a novel peptide having cell cycle inhibitory activity, was isolated from the cultured broth of Aspergillus terreus 95F-1 and its structure was elucidated by spectral analyses. Terpeptin inhibited the cell cycle progression of mouse tsFT210 cells in the G2/M phase with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 62.5 μM.

During our screening program for natural product drugs effective against multidrug-resistant mammalian cells, we have discovered a new delta lactone FD-211 from the fermantation broth of Myceliophthora lutea TF-0409. FD-211 had a broad spectrum activity against cultured tumor cell lines, including adriamycin-resistant HL-60 cells.

Paecilomyces nostocoides, in which conidia of smaller or larger sizes appear in chains, was newly isolated from Japan. In addition to the typicalPaecilomyces-type conidiation, the Japanese isolate showed additionalAcremonium-like submerged conidiation in and/or on some agar media. The submerged conidiation was also observed in the ex-type strains, but not in the type specimens ofP. nostocoides. The same submerged conidiation was observed inP. lilacinus, the species most similar toP. nostocoides. The species definitions ofP. nostocoides andP. lilacinus were emended to include the submerged conidiation.Paecilomyces-type conidia were uninucleate in bothP. nostocoides andP. lilacinus. Paecilomyces nostocoides andP. lilacinus had the Q-10(H2) ubiquinone system.

WNT-5A is a secretory glycoprotein related to the proliferation of dermal papilla cells. While searching for an inhibitor of WNT-5A expression, a new compound, 13-bromomonocillin I (1), was isolated from the fermentation broth of the fungus Pochonia chlamydosporia, cultured in NaBr-supplemented medium. 13-Bromomonocillin I (1) exhibited WNT-5A expression inhibitory activity with an IC 50 value of 0.25 μM.
