Catharanthus Alkaloids. XXIII. The isolation of tetrahydroalstonine, vindorosine, and ursolic acid fromC. trichophyllus

H. K. Kim; R. N. Blomster; H. H. S. Fong; Norman R. Farnsworth

SummaryJuniperus virginiana, a tree of eastern North America, is of comparatively minor yet significant economic importance. Most uses of its wood depend on its pleasant odor, distinctive appearance, or resistance to microbial decay.Red cedar at present is used somewhat less than formerly. This is due to a decline in its availability. The substitution of other woods and consumer demand for finer woods are additional reasons.Little or no literature is available describing the current cedar industry. The author has included descriptions of several such local industries. Middle Tennessee might be considered the center of the red cedar industry because of local availability and the industry located there. It is not expected that the importance of red cedar will change significantly in the near future.
