The organocatalyst, piperidinium acetate formed in situ, was utilized as an efficient catalyst for one-pot synthesis of 5,6-disubstituted 3H-pyrrolizines with halogen (Cl, Br), methoxy and ethyl ester groups. Absorption and emission spectra properties were also compared in dichloromethane, toluene, methanol, and DMSO. Electronic spectra were altered slightly by these substituents, which can be well explained by TD-DFT calculations. And the selected four orbital energies indicated that electrons transited smoothly from the pyrrolizine ring to the indole unit.

Several novel fused heterocyclic systems which have rings containing N/O or N/S have been synthesized through a facile one-pot method by the treatment of substituted 2-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)phenol and cyanogen bromide in THF and NEt3. This one-pot method contains tough ring-opening of thiazole, special intermolecular rearrangement and ring-closing reactions. The newly synthesized compounds were characterized by HR-MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR spectral data and DFT calculation analysis. 2a was also determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis.

A water-soluble fluorescent SO2 derivatives probe PI-SO2 based on a phenanthroimidazole dye, and a sensitive SO2 recognition site, aldehyde was constructed. The probe PI-SO2 exhibits desirable properties such as high sensitivity, high selectivity and good water-solubility. Significantly, we have demonstrated that the probe PI-SO2 is suitable for rapidly fluorescence detecting of SO2 derivatives in aqueous solution and serum. The application of the novel probe PI-SO2 proved that it was not only a useful tool for the detection of SO2 derivatives in vitro, but also a potential assay for investigating the effects of SO2 derivatives, and demonstrating its value in practical applicationin of complex biological samples.

Two novel π-enlarged palladium N-confused porphyrins (Pd-NCPs) containing benzoic acid or 4-ethynylbenzoic acid moiety were synthesized by dibromination, silver metallation, Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling, and hydrolysis reaction. All compounds were characterized by 1H-NMR and mass spectra. Optical and electrochemical properties were also obtained. The photovoltaic properties of these π-enlarged Pd-NCPs were examined and the sensitizers achieved low efficiency, which was well explained by quantum chemistry calculation.
