A modified postage-stamp coverage method for local load case of transmission service charges

Nur Hanis Radzi; Ramesh C. Bansal; Zhao Yang Dong; Mohammad Yusri Hassan

The conventional postage-stamp coverage method assumes that the entire transmission system is used in wheeling, irrespective of the actual transmission facilities that carry the transaction. In order to achieve a fair transmission service charge methodology, modification need to be implemented on the conventional postage-stamp coverage method for a system that consists of local load case. The purpose of this modification is to trace the actual usage of an individual generator injecting power to the transmission line and charge the generator based on the actual amount of power usage in the transmission network. Two case studies based on an idealized 3-bus system and 10-machine IEEE 39-bus (New England) system are used to illustrate the proposed approach. The results show that with the proposed pricing approaches reflect a fair and equitable transmission pricing method as the generators are charged based on the actual usage in the transmission lines.

Justified distribution factors approach for pool modelling

Nur Hanis Radzi; Zhao Yang Dong; Ramesh C. Bansal

Distribution factors have been used to identify the contributions of the transmission users towards line flows in an electricity market. They are the basis of transmission usage charges in many cases more fairly. However, the existing distribution factors still have various limitations which prevent the wider application of this technique in electricity market practices. In this paper, a new technique is proposed to evaluate the transmission line flows more accurately. The proposed approach, referred to as justified distribution factors approach, is tested in a realistic electricity market against other commonly used distribution factors to show its effectiveness.

Integrating the Transmission Loss Component with the Distribution Factors Enhanced Transmission Pricing Method for Efficient Transmission Use of System Charges

Nur Hanis Radzi; Ramesh C. Bansal; Zhao Yang Dong; Mohammad Yusri Hassan

Abstract—This article proposes a transmission pricing method that integrates the transmission loss component with the distribution factors enhanced transmission pricing method for the pool electricity market. Two new schemes are proposed: (1) New Scheme 1—the losses are allocated only for the locational charges and (2) New Scheme 2—the losses are allocated for both locational and non-locational charges. Both methods use justified distribution factors to evaluate the transmission line flows more accurately. The transmission losses are allocated among the market users by integrating the generalized generation justified distribution factors and generalized load justified distribution factors with the modified pro-rata method. The proposed approach is tested on the 10-machine IEEE 39-bus (New England) system to prove its effectiveness. Results show that the proposed method is able to reconcile transmission service cost fairly.

Generation Revenue Assessment in Malaysia Electricity Supply Industry

Zuraidah Ngadiron; Nur Hanis Radzi; Zaris Yassin

Restructuring of electricity supply industry had begun in early 20th centuries. Malaysia Electricity Supply Industry (MESI) has aimed to change its structure to a wholesale market model in 2005. Started in 1992, Independent Power Producers (IPPs) were introduced and since then MESI had applied the Single Buyer Model until today. Even though, the Single Buyer Model had passed several process of evolution, it still a form of imperfect competition in which there is only one buyer and many sellers of a product. Therefore, other alternatives of electricity market model for MESI have been proposed, in order to carry on the MESI previous plan towards restructuring. This paper discusses three electricity market models; Single Buyer Market Model, Pool Market Model and Hybrid Market Model. The case study is carried out to compare the three market models in term of generation revenue. Data from 14 IPP and load profiles in MESI is used for the case study and the result will be discussed.

Review on Restructuring of Malaysia Electricity Supply Industry

Zuraidah Ngadiron; Nur Hanis Radzi; Zaris Yassin; Izzati Amin

The global trend in electricity market has put pressure for Malaysia to restructure industry to be more reliable, transparent, efficient and sustainable. Besides, centralized power purchasing units that exist within a vertically-integrated entity have been criticized for failure to provide a truly playing field for the player in the generation sector competing to sell power to the single buyer. The Malaysian Electricity Supply Industry (MESI) has gone through various stages of reform and has evolved from predominantly single entity to a multiplayer industry particularly in the generation sector. This literature review covers the evolution of MESI from the introducing of the Independent Power Producers (IPPs), issues surrounding and implementation of single buyer which had continued until now. The MESI reformed a single buyer functional structure and framework is also included. However, this model does not offer transparent competition. Thus, other alternative electricity market model, pool/hybrid market model could be applied in order to carry on the MESI previous plan towards restructuring. The significance and relevance of the pool market model and its advantages in the Malaysian context is also discussed.

This paper is proposed an artificial neural network (ANN) to apply in the system of prediction of power output from photovoltaic (PV) panel system. In order to test the efficiency and reliability of a proposed ANN model experimental output will be comparing with mathematical equation. The objectives of this project are to develop the ANN model that capable of predicting power output. The activation functions using for the hidden layer is hyperbolic tangent. The training algorithm is used Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation. The meteorology data as input data was obtained from RET screen database in the period from 1st January 2015 until 31st August 2016. There were two locations in Malaysia to be the subject test; Melaka and Kuala Lumpur. From the result, for Melaka, Malaysia the outputs Vm (MAPE = 0.0003% and RMSE = 8.5%) and Im (MAPE = 4.3% and RMSE = 26.8%). Then, for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia have a less error and good correlation with Vm (RMSE = 0.2%) and Im (MAPE = 0.008% and RMSE = 0.3%). Hence, average power output was high level in January to March for both locations. The conclusion shows that the performance of power output is depending on the level of solar radiation on the day.

Received Dec 04, 2017 Revised Jan 11, 2018 Accepted Apr 15, 2018 Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) are fundamental technology in health care that permits the information of a patient’s essential body parameters to be gathered by the sensors. However, the safety and concealment defense of the gathered information is a key uncertain problem. A Hybrid Key Management (HKM) scheme [13] is worked based on Public Key Cryptography (PKC)-authentication scheme. This scheme uses a oneway hash function to construct a Merkle Tree. The PKC method increase the computational complexity and lacking scalability. Additionally, it increases expensive computation, communication costs and delay. To overcome this problem, Robust Security for Protected Health Information by ECC with signature Hash Function in WBAN (RSP) is proposed. The system employs hash-chain based key signature technique to achieve efficient, secure transmission from sensor to user in WBAN.
