Application of the environmental relaxation model to the ideal and non-ideal glass-forming molten mixtures

Nurul Islam; Satendra Kumar; Kunwar Pal Singh

The environmental relaxation model (ERM) was found to explain the viscosities, η, and the equivalent conductances, Λ, of inherent as well as of induced glass-forming melts belonging either to the category of ideal or to that of non-ideal systems. It was also found that, regardless of whether the non-ideal behaviour was due to the interactions resulting in the presence of either the tetrahedral, Td, orthe octahedral, Oh, complex ions in the melt, the ERM explained the temperature dependence satisfactorily. The least-squares fits, plots and the comparison of the parameters obtained from several models suggest an overall applicability of the ERM to melts of varied nature as satisfactory.

Composition dependence of fluidities and conductances of mixtures of hydrated melts

Nurul Islam; Kunwar Pal Singh; Satendra Kumar

Composition dependence of fluidity, ϕ and conductance, Λ of molten mixtures of hydrated zinc and calcium nitrates have been explained over the entire range of temperature in terms of an expression based on the concept of constant T/T0 and not on the criteria of constant T. T0 is the zero mobility temperature and T is the absolute temperature. Variation in the pre-exponential factor, AY of the Vogel–Tammann–Fulcher equation has been found to be a linear function of T0.
