Abstract We describe a high statistics measurement from deep inelastic neutrino-nucleon scattering of the electroweak parameters ϱ and sin 2 θ w , performed in the Fermilab narrow-band neutrino beam. Our measurement uses a radius-dependent cut in y = E H / E v which reduces the systematic error in sin 2 θ w , and incorporates electromagnetic and electroweak radiative corrections. In a renormalization scheme where sin 2 θ w ≡ 1− m 2 W / m 2 Z , a value of sin 2 θ w = 0.242±0.011±0.005 is obtained fixing ϱ = 1. If both sin 2 θ w and ϱ are allowed to vary in a fit to our data, we measure ϱ = 0.991 ± 0.025 ± 0.009.

Abstract Data are presented on the yields at 3.6 mr of π±, K±, p and p with momenta between 23 and 197 GeV/c produced by 200 and 300 GeV/c protons incident on beryllium.

We report results from neutral current scattering of muon neutrinos and antineutrinos on iron nuclei by the CCFRR experiment at Fermilab. Our objective is the measurement of sin2θw from inclusive semileptonic neutrino-nucleon interactions. Such a measurement, even though it is subject to more corrections than the analogous measurement in neutrino-electron scattering (e.g. due to the presence of a strange quark sea in the nucleon), has a high degree of statistical accuracy and may afford the most precise test of the standard model of electro-weak interactions. Furthermore, the recent observations1 of the Z0 and W± in proton-antiproton collisions give such a measurement added topical interest. The comparison of sin 2θw determined from the masses of the Z0 and W± and from neutrino interactions, i.e. from different processes and energy regions, may hold some surprises. Finally, the grand-unified theories make definite predictions2 about the value of sin2θw and the lifetime of the proton; sin2θw measurements test the validity of these theories.

Preliminary results from a new high‐statistics study of neutrino and antineutrino interactions are presented. The full data sample includes 130,000 charged‐current neutrino and 23,000 antineutrion events detected in the large acceptance Lab E neutrino target ar Fermilab with the N‐30 dichromatic beam. Results based on a preliminary sample of one‐third of the data are given for normalized cross sections and neutral currents.

The authors recently have measured the direct muon production in the forward direction at small p{perpendicular} and find a large direct muon to pion ratio. At x = 0.3 the ratio is {mu}{sup -}/{pi}{sup -} = 1.83 {+-} 0.43 x 10{sup -4} for negatives and {mu}{sup +}/{pi}{sup +} = 6.4 {+-} 1.3 x 10{sup -5} for positives. The direct production of {mu}{sup +} and {mu}{sup -} are equal although the {pi}{sup +}/{pi}{sup -} ratios is large. They propose to continue these measurements and extend them to higher x. These new measurements would also include the A dependence of the {mu}/{pi} ratio. Based on their experience with this apparatus, they believe it is possible to extend these measurements of single lepton production to production by incident pions and kaons.

We propose to search for direct muon production in the forward direction from 300 GeV protons incident on a heavy nuclear target. By using the first stage of the Ml beam as a source of a diffracted proton beam and the second and third stages of Ml as a spectrometer, one can make a measurement of the direct muon to pion ratio at values of x between 0.3 and 0.75. If this ratio is on the order of 10{sup -4}, the event rates are on the order of 800 direct muons/hr. at an x of .5. The modifications to the Ml beam are minor.
