Catalytic activity of zeolites FeY and CoY after exposure to a shock wave

T. A. Bregadze; V. A. Seleznev; O. V. Krylov; M. Ya. Kushnerev

1. The action of a shock wave leads to a substantial amorphization of zeolites FeY and CoY. 2. The destruction of the crystal lattice of zeolites has little effect on the catalytic activity of the ions of the transition metals introduced into the zeolite.

Electron diffraction study of the dehydration of the hydroxides Mg(OH)2, Be(OH)2, and Ca(OH)2

O. V. Krylov; M. Ya. Kushnerev; V. V. Kiryushkin

1. The kinetics of the dehydration of the hydroxides Mg(OH)2, Be(OH)2, and Ca(OH)2 was studied by an electron diffraction method. 2. The data obtained did not confirm the mechanism of dehydration of Mg(OH)2 through an intermediate crystalline phase of the type of NiAs, which has been reported by certain authors. 3. The dehydration of Mg(OH)2 occurs by a continuous explosive conversion of Mg(OH)2 to crystals of MgO of the final dimensions. Growth of MgO crystals does not limit the rate of the process. 4. The dehydration of Ca(OH)2 and Be(OH)2 proceeds through two phases separated in time — formation and growth of nuclei.

Microcalorimetric study of the adsorption on catalyst of the reactants and products of the reduction of acrolein with ethanol

M. Ya. Bykhovskii; A. M. Mikhalev; O. V. Krylov

1. Heats of adsorption of acrolein, ethanol, allyl alcohol, and acetaldehyde on magnesium oxide were determined microcalorimetrically. 2. The heat of adsorption does not depend on the degree of coverage up to 60–70% of monolayer. 3. At the coverage higher than 60–70% of monolayer, interaction between the adsorbed molecules starts to manifest itself, whereby the heat of adsorption increases. 4. It is postulated that double bonds participate in the adsorption of acrolein and allyl alcohol.
