Pulse compression is a method for improving the range resolution of the radar systems. Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM) is a type of pulse compression which is commonly used in the radar applications because of its simplicity and Doppler tolerance. However this method provides relatively high first peak sidelobe level within around -13.3 dB. This paper presents a developed curve-shaped Nonlinear Frequency Modulation (NLFM) using second degree polynomial approach for radar pulse compression in order to reduce the sidelobe level. The radar signal is assumed has bandwidth 30 MHz while the length of pulse signal as long as 10e-6 s. The curve-shaped chirp waveform is formed by the polynomial equation utilizing the LFM waveform as the base line. According to the simulation results and analysis, using a certain polynomial equation, the curve-shaped NLFM with negative orientation provides lower sidelobe level than the LFM. The best first peak sidelobe level achieved by this proposed NLFM is approximately -18.6 dB.

The development in signal processing techniques give more improvements to radar capability in detection and resolution. Pulse Compression technique is used for this purpose. This paper describes design and implementation of radar pulse compression generator using AD9956 Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS). The specification of waveform such as frequency and bandwidth can be generated by controlling the memory registers of DDS through its SPI communication ports. In this research, AD9956 DDS is used to generate short and long pulse signals that will be used to modulate the determined carrier frequency. The short pulse is formed from DDS single tone waveform mode, while the long pulse is formed from DDS linear sweep waveform mode. Both of pulse signals are digitally triggered by microcontroller to set their pulse width and frequency of repetitions. DDS operation, waveform and pulse generation technique in this proposed system is discussed in detail.

Breast cancer was a disease with the condition of the breast tissue became abnormal due to the development of cancer cells in the breast area. One method of breast cancer nondestructive detection was by through shooting the indicated breast cancer by using an infrared camera. The emission variations of infrared radiation on the image captured showed the level of cancer. The results of infrared camera imaging called as thermography image was processed in computing algorithm to classify the cancer in breast areas according to the characteristics of each image. The image feature extraction was obtained through the calculation of fractal dimension of the image by using the box counting algorithm. Image classification process was done by using the Fuzzy C-Means algorithm to determine the level of the breast cancer size based on the T component of the TNM system, namely T0, T1, T2 and T3 to the 22 image data to obtain the value of parameter cluster centers in Fuzzy C-Means. The test results showed that the feature extraction of breast thermography image using box counting fractal method gave the different value between normal breast and inflammatory cancer breast tissues. Normal breast tissue (T0) had a fractal dimension average less than T1, there was 1.161525 with deviation standard value was 0.593625. Breast with tumor T1 had a fractal dimension average less than T2, there was 1.45455 with deviation standard value was 0.4645. Breast with tumor T2 had a fractal dimension average less than T3, there was 1.6596 with deviation standard value was 0.2925, and breast with tumor T3 had a fractal dimension average 1.81294 with deviation standard value was 0.20199. The classification of tumor size using Fuzzy C-Means in 3 and 4 clusters with the use of 64×64 pixel box size in box counting process was more consistent than the use of 32×32 pixels box size.

Regional Integrated Border Surveillance System, is a system that is capable to providing a wide range of data and actual informations. This system is very suitable to support efforts to control the border area by the government. Basically this system is the result of the integration between sub-system monitors. In this research activity has built models of Integrated Surveillance Systems Border Region, which consists of three sub-systems monitoring. Expected Integrated Surveillance System is able to improve the performance of agency-related agencies, which are replied the border of the region. In this Integrated Monitoring System model contained several types of technology, namely; telemetry, data acquisition, image processing, and smart multi-microcontroller-based Data Logger. This paper discusses the model development concept of Integrated Border Area Surveillance System, which allows it to be built in Indonesia as a model of integrations monitoring system for monitoring the border area.

In this paper, we present a metamaterial coplanar waveguide (CPW) filter with performance improvement utilizing horizontal rectangular split ring resonators (SRRs). The filter is designed for S-Band frequency operation of 2.3 GHz allowing application in many microwave communication systems. We study S-parameter results and find that improvement of insertion loss and bandwidth can be obtained by making horizontal rectangular SRRs. Both simulation and experiment has been done to show performance improvement of the proposed filter. Further analysis on surface current density is presented to observe the coupling effect between CPW to SRRs.
