New double mercury silver phosphide iodide Hg12Ag41P88I41 (1) was synthesized and its crystal structure was established. Compound 1 crystallizes in the cubic system. The characteristic feature of the crystal structure 1 is the presence of the anionic cage clusters P113−, which have been previously found in alkali metal compounds only. The well-ordered P113− clusters form a system of polyhedra, which encapsulate various disordered α-AgI-type fragments.

The structure of the title compound, Cs3La11(SeO3)12Cl12, consists of complex slabs of composition [La22(SeO3)24] that are stacked along the a axis and are separated by sublayers of either chloride anions or caesium chloride. All SeO3 groups show the typical pyramidal shape. The Se—O bond distances vary from 1.672 (6) to 1.747 (6) A.

Synthesis, crystal and electronic structure of Cd2PCl2: influence of cation on characteristic structural features of pnictide halides of Group 12 metals

Cadmium phosphide chloride Cd2PCl2 was prepared by the ampule synthesis method at 770 K. Crystals were obtained from the gaseous phase by the chemical transport reaction. The crystal structure of Cd2PCl2 is built of the P2Cd6 octahedra, which are linked in layers by sharing four equatorial vertices. The layers alternate in a fashion analogous to that observed in the K2NiF4 structural type and are linked in a three-dimensional framework through the halogen atoms. The characteristic features of the crystal and electronic structures of pnictide halides M2PCl2 (M = Cd or Hg) were considered based on X-ray diffraction data and results of quantum-chemical calculations.
