In this paper, inventory management system for water supply network is presented. Considering the existing experience in telecommunications network management area, we have made comparison between basic aspects of telecommunications network management and water supply network management. As a first step, we have detected the need for developing water supply network inventory system, covering configuration management functional area. The main goal of this system is to collect, process and store inventory data through graphical user interface, to be presented to network operating personnel. Related work is researched and briefly presented. After that, the inventory management system solution is presented. Complete network structure is modelled as information model in Data Warehouse. Graphical user interface, developed in web technology with Google maps as background, with basic knowledge integrated, is presented. Some basic functions of GUI (graphical user interface) are discussed, such as: logging of network maintenance and repair actions, network planning support and reporting. Finally, we have tried to define future steps for evolution of this inventory management system in complete water supply network solution. Hence, we have made basic discussion related to technical aspects of real-time data collecting in water supply networks, introducing performance and fault management functional areas in water supply network management.

Main goal of research in this paper is to improve city infrastructure resilience capacity as well as management process of water supply network. Namely, water supply network is located over the wide city area, typically managed by company established for that purpose owned by city government. Water supply network is very important part of the city infrastructure. Hence, it is necessary to ensure high-quality and reliable water supply network management process. Our research is focused on mapping of telecommunications network management principles into water supply network management. Complete network view is graphically and geographically oriented using GPS based network elements coordinates. Real-time network control and management is based on network inventory management system which is presented in our previous work. Data from the real network are included in network management process using telemetry techniques and will enhance network management process. Finally, network model and relevant real-time data are integrated into the complete system that will cover all city infrastructure, acting as infrastructure data interchange portal usable especially in the case of disasters such as flooding, earthquakes, volcanos, etc. Indirectly, citizens will communicate with this platform through different users or services using telecommunications infrastructure.

Fault management function mostly rely on SNMP protocol and SNMP agent capabilities, where SNMP agents are implemented over different network elements. Structure of management information is described in Management Information Base (MIB) for every single SNMP agent class. Hence, integrated management systems needs to implement different SNMP managers capable to communicate with number of different SNMP agents, obtaining management information from real telecommunication network. Those managers are often called access modules. In order to decrease delivery time for SNMP management solutions, number of generic fault management MIBs are designed (e.g. Alarm Management Information Base). Theoretically, if different SNMP agents rely on the same management information base, only one SNMP manager (access module) is enough to manage different network elements. It is very logical way of thinking, if we consider that in real life different network elements share the same management information structure. For instance, alarm message from many different network elements consists of start time, probable cause, additional information, affected network element, etc. However, state of the art is not so idyllic, from the integrators point of view. Number of MIBs exist in real telecommunications network. In this paper we will make short research on MIBs implemented on different network elements, in order to detect real integrator position in network management solutions development. At the end, solution is proposed for SNMP agent software development.
