Towards modeling of communications protocols

Hazem El-Gendy; Magdy Amer; Osman Ibrahim

In this paper, we develop a testability-directed model of a communications protocol. This modeling has applicability in different phases of development of sound advanced telecommunications systems such as universal personal communications systems. The model is called Testability-Directed Standard of a communications Protocol (TDSP). We provide reasoning and justification for every component of TDSP. A TDSP precisely specifies the rules of interactions among the communicating entities and explicitly and precisely specifies the conformance testing requirements.

Supporting cloud computing using Erlang Programming Language

Abd El-Fattah Hussein; Osman Ibrahim

Cloud computing is the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices as a utility over a network (typically the Internet). Erlang Programming Language is a perfect fit for cloud computing, not only for developing applications, but also for powering cloud infrastructure. In this paper we propose two frameworks employing Erlang programming language for building reliable and scalable cloud applications using Erlang features and its related components and libraries. Erlang native features of directly supporting distribution, fault tolerance will help write, deploy, and run applications easily in the cloud.

Towards Formally Prioritizing the Activities of Group Course Work Inside Student Teams

Osman Ibrahim; M. Samir Abou El-Seoud

Learning to prioritize different activities effectively can help many students to become more efficient towards their work, managing time, energy, and stress. This paper presents an automated tool that helps students and teaches them how, as a team, can prioritize group work. The tool is based on a formal prioritization mechanism that encompasses a model and related process that takes into account the relative importance of each activity from each individual of the group. From individual judgment, the tool works out a prioritized list that reflects the group prioritization. The model is based on a sound mathematical basis to provide the automated support for the prioritization process that will be conducted by each team member while keeping the subjective viewpoint of each member. As a final step, the tool automatically computes the group final prioritized list of activities that reflects the team consensus.
