Performance evaluation of green supply chain management using integrated fuzzy multi-criteria decision making techniques

Özer Uygun; Ayşe Dede

Performance of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) is evaluated.Criteria for GSCM is identified.Fuzzy DEMATEL, fuzzy ANP and fuzzy TOPSIS methods are used in an integrated manner. Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) predicates minimizing or preferably eliminating negative effects of supply chain operations on the environment. Companies have to enhance their capability on GSCM activities based on not only emerging environmental regulations but also enthusiastic politics of the companies about environmental practices. GSCM requires multi-dimensional approaches, thus multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) techniques should be implemented while evaluating GSCM performance of companies. Moreover, fuzzy group decision making methods should be implemented in order to seek solutions for vague and complex multi-attribute problems in fuzzy environment. In this study, a model based on integrated fuzzy MCDM methods is proposed for evaluating GSCM performance of companies in terms of green design, green purchasing, green transformation, green logistics and reverse logistics. The cause and effect interrelationship amongst GSCM dimensions is figured out using fuzzy DEMATEL method. Then, based on this interrelationship, fuzzy ANP method is implemented for calculating the weights of the related criteria. Finally, fuzzy TOPSIS method is applied by using the weights obtained from fuzzy ANP method, for evaluating and ranking the GSCM performance of alternative companies.

Özer Uygun; Hasan Kaçamak; Ünal Atakan Kahraman

An integrated DEMATEL and Fuzzy ANP multi-criteria decision making techniques were used in combination. The methodology is proposed for outsourcing provider selection and obtained useful results. The approach can be applied for other MCDM problems.Three hierarchical level for the criteria were applied while in the literature it is mostly two levels. In recent years, strategy aspects related to core competency, risk analysis and organizational flexibility especially have been growing. This trend has led researchers and industries to become more interested in the multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) models for selecting outsourcing providers. The efficiency of decision-making mostly depends on the ability of decision-makers analyzing the complex cause and effect relationship between criteria and taking effective actions based on the analysis. Using an analytical method to select the most eligible outsourcing provider is significant for a company which desires to improve its competitiveness. In this study, a fuzzy integrated multi-criteria decision making method for evaluation and determination of an outsourcing provider for a telecommunication company is analyzed by using DEMATEL and Fuzzy ANP multi-criteria decision making techniques. First, DEMATEL method is used in order to put forward the interrelationship among the main criteria which are determined in the study for outsourcing selection process. Then, local weights of the sub-criteria and sub-subcriteria are calculated by Fuzzy ANP approach on the basis of cause-effect relationships that are exposed through DEMATEL method. The local weights are put into ANP supermatrix, and calculations are implemented to select out the most eligible outsourcing provider.

Abstract In this paper, fuzzy logic control of a fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) is proposed. Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) process is a unit that converts heavy distillates like gas oil or residues to gasoline and middle distillates using cracking catalyst. About 45% of worldwide gasoline production comes from FCC processes and its ancillary units. Since a typical FCC unit can process a large amount of the feedstock into more valuable products, the overall economic benefits of a refining could be considerably increased if proper control and optimization strategies are implemented. FCC processes are known to be very difficult to model and control because of the large process scale, complicated hydro-dynamics and complex kinetics of both cracking and coke burning reactions. One of the more heavily investigated terms of nonlinear control, in the field of “intelligent control”, is that due to fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs). FLCs have been successfully applied to a stream of difficult, nonlinear dynamical process such as FCC. Here, with an application to a Turkish refinery FCC unit of FLC fuzzy results obtained using Matlab-Fuzzy Logic Toolbox version 6.5 were found to be acceptable. The paper indicates how fuzzy logic control (FLC), as a promising control technique, would be effectively used for improved process control of FCC in refinery process industry.

Simulating complex and distributed manufacturing systems is not easy using traditional simulation techniques. Manufacturing environment contains several systems that must interoperate and exchange information. A general software architecture is necessary to make manufacturing systems interrelated. This paper presents an overview of distributed manufacturing simulation as well as of information representation in distributed manufacturing simulation using high level architecture (HLA) and its object model template (OMT). The concept is explained with a scenario which is provided to better address the object class structure, interaction class structure, attribute, parameter and data type tables.

Efficient marketing in which the right products are supplied to the right consumer plays a crucial role for a profitable business in the age of highly accessible and competitive global market. This fact enforces producers to clearly identify and analyze the needs of consumers and to display their products respecting locality based on customers’ needs. The position of the business is strengthened within the market and its competiveness increases by supplying and displaying the products suitable to regional consumers’ preferences. In this study, an integral fuzzy multi criteria decision making technique is proposed for an effective decision making process to select the most suitable display products to the consumers’ needs and preferences. The approach has been applied to identify the most suitable set of modular furniture products to be displayed at a local store that locates in Bursa city of Turkey. The approach uses Fuzzy DEMATEL method to work out the interrelations of chosen criteria, which are weighted with Fuzzy ANP and finally suggest a rank-based list of products with Fuzzy PROMETHEE. The results are verified with the expert view and found very useful.
