Multi Criteria Supplier Selection Using Fuzzy PROMETHEE Method

Ozlem Senvar; Gülfem Tuzkaya; Cengiz Kahraman

The fundamental objective of supply chain management (SCM) is to integrate various suppliers to satisfy market demand. Supplier evaluation and selection is very important for establishing an effective supply chain. As a matter of fact, supplier selection consists of both qualitative and quantitative criteria, so it is considered as a multi criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. Under incomplete or uncertain information, the fuzzy set theory allows us make decisions with approximate reasoning. In order to overcome the uncertainty which is constituted by vague situations in supplier selection, we utilize the “extension of the PROMETHEE method in a fuzzy environment” (F-PROMETHEE). In this chapter, multi criteria supplier selection based on a fuzzy PROMETHEE method with an application to supplier selection decision problem is conducted. The main advantages of the methodology are the user friendliness coming from the linguistic evaluations, and the consideration of the vagueness or fuzziness inherent to the decision making environment. Hence, the method can be an efficient and effective methodology to be used by decision makers on supply chains. The proposed methodology can also be applied to any other selection problem.

Supply Chain Performance Measurement: An Integrated DEMATEL and Fuzzy-ANP Approach

Ozlem Senvar; Umut Rifat Tuzkaya; Cengiz Kahraman

Supply chain performance measurement is vital for the continuous improvement of supply chain management. Effective supply chain performance measurement is one of the most important aspects for supply chain management in which decision makers can analyze the historical performance and current status, and set future performance targets. This chapter provides a conceptual point of view to supply chain performance measurement. Inevitably, quantification of the values with precision in a complex supply chain performance measurement system is difficult. The supply chain performance measurement under fuzziness can consider the uncertainty and ambiguity surrounding the supply chain performance measurement. The aim of this chapter is to present a fuzzy decision making approach to deal with the performance measurement in supply chain systems. In this chapter, DEMATEL method is adapted to model complex interdependent relationships and construct a relation structure using measurement criteria for evaluation. F-ANP is performed to overcome the problem of dependence and feedback among each measurement criteria. The integrated DEMATEL and F-ANP approach provides an effective decision tool for the supply chain performance measurement.

Oil Consumption Forecasting in Turkey using Artificial Neural Network

Ebru Turanoğlu; Ozlem Senvar; Cengiz Kahraman

Oil and energy markets have experienced dramatic changes over the past three decades. Due to these changes, it may be difficult to model and forecast the oil consumption with traditional methods such as regression. Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) are the strong rival of regression and time series in forecasting. ANNs provide good accuracy along with more reliable and precise forecasting for policy makers, in this regard, ANNs can establish the foundation for oil consumption management by providing good model results. This paper tries to unfold the oil consumption forecasting in Turkey using ANN through some predetermined inputs, which is data for population, GDP, import and export of Turkey from 1965 to 2010, with the aim of finding the essential structure of the data to forecast future oil consumption in Turkey with less error.

A Fuzzy Design of Single and Double Acceptance Sampling Plans

Cengiz Kahraman; Ebru Turanoglu Bekar; Ozlem Senvar

In this chapter, we briefly introduce the topic of acceptance sampling. We also examine acceptance sampling plans with intelligent techniques for solving complex quality problems. Among intelligent techniques, we focus on the application of the fuzzy set theory in the acceptance sampling. Moreover, we propose multi-objective mathematical models for fuzzy single and fuzzy double acceptance sampling plans with illustrative examples. The study illustrates how an acceptance sampling plan should be designed under fuzzy environment.

A Systematic Customer Oriented Approach based on Hesitant Fuzzy AHP for Performance Assessments of Service Departments

Ozlem Senvar

Customer orientation is a business strategy in the lean business model that requires management and employees to focus on the changing demands and requirements of the customers.Improved business performance can be enhanced by .customer orientation. In this chapter, a systematic approach based on hesitant fuzzy AHP is proposed to deal with incomplete information due to the ambiguity to solve complex customer oriented multi criteria decision making problem of performance assessments of service departments.
