Abstract The polarization of the proton from the inclusive breakup reaction 1 H( d , p )X at 2.1 GeV was measured at 0°. The results are expressed as the ratio of the proton polarization, P p , to the deuteron beam polarization, P d , κ 0 = P p / P d . The measured values of κ 0 range from +0.983 to -0.305 and are in general agreement with the expected behavior arising from the D state in the deuteron wave function.

Abstract The multiplicities of charged secondaries from inelastic αp and αα collisions have been measured using the Split-Field Magnet detector at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings. Corrected multiplicity distributions for αα and αp interactions are compared with those for pp interactions and with theoretical predictions.

Abstract Differential cross sections for αα and αp scattering have been measured at √ s =125 and 88 GeV, respectively, in the t range from −0.2 to −0.8 (GeV/ c ) 2 using the Split-Field Magnet detector at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings. Comparison with theoretical calculations using the Glauber model confirms the importance of including inelastic shadowing effects in very high energy nucleus-nucleus elastic scattering.

Abstract The inclusive production of charged hadrons has been measured in αα and αp collisions at nucleon-nucleon c.m. energies (√s nn )of 31 and 44 GeV, respectively, for transverse momenta p T up to 5 GeV/ c in the central rapidity ( y ) region. at high p T the yields are consistent with being 4 times and 16 times highere than the ones in pp interactions at y =0, for αp and αα interactions, respectively. However, an enhancement over these factors, as expected from an earlier FNAL experiment, cannot be ruled out.

We have measured the cross section of /sup 3/He(..pi../sup -/,..pi../sup 0/)/sup 3/H at T = 285, 428, and 525 MeV for angles in the range of 60/sup 0/< or approx. =theta< or approx. =135/sup 0/ covering the momentum transfer range 0.5< or approx. =q< or approx. =1.0 GeV/c. Comparison is made with Glauber model calculations to discuss the sensitivity to nuclear structure and pion-nucleus interaction effects.

Abstract Missing mass spectra from the reactions πp → πx and πα → πtx have been measured and found to be significantly different. Neglecting all background processes an analysis with the impulse approximation yields a 0.24 percent presence of the isobar-triton state in helium in the triton momentum range 0.32–0.70 GeV c and the mass range 1.30–1.86 GeV c 2 .
