NEW STATES OF MATTER IN HADRONIC INTERACTIONS:Pan American Advanced Study Institute | 2002
P. Fachini
Preliminary results on the first measurement of K* (892)0 → πK production using the mixed‐event technique are presented. The measurements are performed at mid‐rapidity by the STAR detector in SNN= 130 GeV Au‐Au collisions at RHIC. The K*0 to negative hadron, kaon and φratios are obtained and compared to the measurements in e+e−, pp and pp at various energies. Despite the K*0 short lifetime (cτ ≃ 4 fm) and the expected losses due to the re‐scattering of the decay products in the dense matter, no dramatic reduction on this resonance production is observed.
