The present study evaluates the importance of agricultural cooperatives in the job generation process in Minas Gerais from the analysis of the number of employees of cooperative organizations related with the number of members and total assets. The work has a database made available by OCEMG in the period from 2006 to 2015 referring to agricultural cooperatives in the state of Minas Gerais and throughout the country. A statistical analysis was made such as test of means and regression analysis, with which were generated trend lines and the power of explanation, (R2). Due to the analysis of the development of the number of employment, there are indications that agricultural cooperatives have become labor-intensive enterprises. As cooperatives have been increasing in size, which may be appealing to current and new co-ops, expand its size and possibly its activities and service offerings.

Starting from the perception of the Brazilian food industry (IAA) importance as a job generator, this work analyses the variations of the number of employees in this sector from 1996 to 2012. By applying the shift share analysis (SSA), it was possible to verify which effects are responsible for the changing number of employees. The effects used in this paper were provided by the most complete and modern versions of the SSA, and the national, structural market competitive and specialized competitive effects, as well as homothetic decomposition and residual of each one.
