Objetivou-se avaliar a conservacao pos-colheita de frutos de melao tipo cantaloupe (Cucumis melo L var. Cantaloupensis ), genotipo Nun 3984, colhido nos estadios de maturacao II ( frutos imaturos em inicio de descoloracao e pedunculo totalmente preso) e IV (frutos com pedunculo totalmente rachado), em seis periodos de armazenamento: 0; 5; 10;15; 20 e 25 dias. Os frutos foram provenientes do Agropolo Mossoro-Assu (RN), cujo clima e caracterizado como quente e seco, com temperaturas maxima e minima de 33oC e 29oC, respectivamente. O armazenamento foi realizado a 20oC e 50% UR. Utilizou-se um fatorial 2 x 6 (dois estadios de maturacao e seis periodos de armazenamento), em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com tres repeticoes, sendo utilizados dois frutos por parcela. Os frutos foram avaliados individualmente quanto a firmeza da polpa, perda de peso, teor de solidos soluveis, aparencias externa e interna. Houve efeito significativo da interacao entre os fatores estudados apenas para variavel firmeza da polpa. A firmeza da polpa foi de 30,07 N e 18,75 N por ocasiao da colheita e 5,32 N e 3,50 N aos 25 dias de armazenamento, respectivamente, para os estadios II e IV de maturacao. O teor de solidos soluveis apresentado por esse genotipo (7% a 9%), nos estadios II e IV de maturacao respectivamente, nao estabelece um padrao minimo para a aceitacao no mercado externo. A perda de peso atingiu valores medios de 6,26% e 6,67% aos 20 e 25 dias de armazenamento, respectivamente. Os frutos chegaram aos 20 dias de armazenamento com nota media 3,1 (deterioracao mediana) e 4,0 (deterioracao leve) para as aparencias interna e externa, respectivamente, nos dois estadios de maturacao, sendo portanto, considerados proprios para o consumo, por terem notas acima de 3,0

Aiming to evaluate the postharvest shelf life of Charentais melon (Cucumis melo L.) stored under refrigeration, the fruits were treated with 1-MCP, associated or not with modified atmosphere (MAP). Two experiments were carried out at the laboratory of Embrapa Agroindustria Tropical in Fortaleza, Brazil, analyzing the chemical and physic quality characteristics. The fruits were obtained at the Agroindustria Nolem Comercial Importadora e Exportadora Ltda, located in Mossoro Acu, Brazil. The fruits were treated with 300 and 600 nL L-1 of 1-MCP, half of those were wrapped in plastic films, which were wrapped without the use of 1-MCP in the same conditions of storage. The melons were stored during 21 days, being 14 days (9±1oC and 87±5% UR) + 7 days (22±2oC and 70±5% UR). Based on external appearance, postharvest shelf life of the fruits stored under modified atmosphere, with or without initial treatment of 1-MCP was 21 days, while in fruits treated initially only with 1- MCP, it was 19 days. The application of the 1-MCP provided reduction in the respiratory activity and ethylene production, and higher flesh firmness retention, smaller weight loss and better external appearance, when associated the modified atmosphere. The modified atmosphere, separately, was efficient to reduce the weight loss and to maintain better external appearance.

Um experimento foi desenvolvido durante o periodo de julho a setembro de 1996 na horta da ESAM, para avaliar o efeito residual do composto orgânico sobre as caracteristicas quimicas de folhas de alface em segundo cultivo sucessivo. As analises foram realizadas no Nucleo de Estudos em Pos-colheita da ESAM. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos casualizados completos em esquema fatorial 5 X 2, com quatro repeticoes. O primeiro fator constou de doses de composto orgânico (0; 40; 80; 120 e 160 t ha-1) e o segundo da ausencia ou presenca do adubo mineral (300; 500 e 150 kg ha-1 de sulfato de amonio, superfosfato simples e cloreto de potassio, respectivamente). Os teores de proteina bruta, fosforo, potassio e de magnesio nas folhas de alface aumentaram em funcao das doses de composto orgânico aplicadas; nao houve interacao entre as doses de composto orgânico e a presenca do adubo mineral para as caracteristicas avaliadas.

The postharvest conservation of eggplant fruits covered with cassava starch at 3% or covered with PVC film was compared. Fruits of the cultivar Embu were taken 147 days after sowing date in the field, in Mossoro, Rio Grande do Norte State, Brazil. Afterwards, the fruits were taken to the Postharvest Laboratory and stored during 15 days in environmental conditions (26-29oC and 50-75% RH). A 3 x 6 factorial scheme with three replications of three fruits per plot in a completely randomized design was used. The treatments consisted of the combination of three coating types (control, cassava starch and polyethylene film) with six storage times (0; 3; 6; 9; 12 or 15 days). The external appearance (1-5 scale), mass loss (%), flesh firmness (N) and soluble solids (oBrix), titratable acidity (% of citric acid), and ascorbic acid (mg/100 g of pulp) content of fruits were evaluated. Polyethylene film was the most efficient coat to keep the external appearance and to reduce the mass loss of the eggplant fruits. The cassava starch coat was not so efficient in extending the shelf life of eggplant fruits as the PVC film was. Based on external appearance, the conservation period for eggplant fruits was of 15 and 12 days for PVC film and cassava starch, compared to 9 days of the control treatment.

Resumo - Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar o efeito da cera de carnauba (Primax Wax) e filme plastico de polietileno de baixa densidade “X-tend” sobre a vida util pos-colheita de mamao ‘Formosa’ (Tainung 1) produzido em Barauna – RN. O experimento foi conduzido no laboratorio de Pos-colhe ita da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Arido (UFERSA). Utilizou-se um esquema fatorial 3 x 6 com 3 repeticoes de tres frutos por parcela, constituindo na combinacao de 3 tipos de atmosferas (cera, filme de polietileno e controle) com 6 tempos de armazenamento (0; 7; 14; 21; 28; 35). Os frutos dos distintos tratamentos foram armazenados em câmaras frias a 10 ± 2 °C e UR 90 ± 5%, analisados em intervalos de sete dias. As caracteristicas avaliadas foram: aparencia externa, perda de massa, firmeza da polpa, solidos soluveis, acidez titulavel e vitamina C. Constatou-se ser o filme plastico o mais eficiente em manter a qualidade externa e reduzir a perda de massa dos frutos. A cera de carnauba, na concentracao utilizada, mostrou eficiencia relativa na conservacao de mamao quando comparada ao filme plastico. A vida util pos-colheita dos frutos mantidos sob atmosfera modificada foi de 35 dias e do controle apenas 28 dias. Palavras-chave - Carica papaya L. Alimentos-armazenamento. Fruta-conservacao.

Aiming to evaluate the postharvest shelf-life of bilimbi fruits (Averrhoa bilimbi l.) stored under cold storage, bilimbi fruits were harvested in two maturation stages (determined by the peel color) at ten plants in Arez -RN, Brazil, in November 2006 and transported in polystyrene box containing ice´s bag to the Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-arido, Mossoro - RN. The fruits were placed in polystyrene trays, packed with PVC film and maintained at 10 ± 1 oC and 95% RH. It was used a completely randomized design in 2 x 6 factorial scheme, which consisted of stadiums (green or yellow) and the period of 0, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 days, respectively. It was evaluated external appearance, soluble solids, flesh firmness, weight loss, pH, titratable acidity (TA), ascorbic acid and ratio. There was an increase of the weight loss, pH and the ratio and reduction of the content of ascorbic acid, TA and flesh firmness. The postharvest shelf-life of bilimbi fruits was 9 days.

The mombin tree (Spondias mombin L.) is found in almost all regions of Brazil. Fresh and processed mombin fruits are increasingly demanded by the market. The objective of this work was to evaluate the post-harvest characteristics of mombin fruits coated with cassava starch and PVC film. Fruits from the mombin cultivar Lagoa-Redonda were harvested at physiological maturity in Limoeiro do Norte, State of Ceará, transported to the Chemistry Laboratory of the Ceará Federal Institute, Limoeiro do Norte campus, and stored for 8 days at 29.7°C and 59% of relative humidity. A completely randomized experimental design in a 3x5 factorial arrangement was used, with three coating types (control, cassava starch at 3%, and cassava starch at 3% combined with PVC film) and five storage times (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 days), four replicates and five fruits per plot. The fruit skin color, external appearance, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), SS/TA ratio and weight loss were evaluated. The PVC film was effective in maintaining the fruit external appearance and decreasing weight loss. The use of cassava starch was not as efficient as the PVC film for conserving mombin fruits. The post-harvest life of fruits was 8 days for those treated with cassava starch or cassava starch combined with PVC film, and 6 days for the control.

Curvature attributes have been widely used for visualization of folds, flexures, faults, collapse features, among others interesting features in seismic data. This work presents a parallel approach to compute volumetric curvature attributes for seismic data on GPU and CPU (sequential and parallel). We compare the results using different derivative operator size for sequential and the parallel approaches. The results show that for high derivative operator size the parallel approach performed on GPU can achieve further speed up than the other approaches. Also, using the proposed GPU approach, it is possible to visualize volume sections in interaction time.
