An organic–inorganic hybrid mixed-valence CuI/CuII tetranuclear polymer [Cu4(obpy)4(Mo2O7)] 1 (Hobpy = 6-hydroxy-2,2′-bipyridine) has been prepared and structurally determined. [Cu4(obpy)4(Mo2O7)] 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P- 1, with a = 9.995(5), b = 10.678(6), c = 10.838(6) Å, α = 90.698(6), β = 113.891(6), γ = 106.018(6) °, Z = 1. Two [Cu2(obpy)2]+ building units linked with one μ2-bridging molybdate dimer result in a dumbbell-like tetranuclear complex, which extends to a one-dimensional chain by π–π stacking interaction between adjacent 2,2′-bipy ligands.
