Parisa Lotfollahi; Karim Haddad Irani-Nejad; Mahnaz Heydari Rikan; Enrico de Lillo

Two new species of mites (Acari: Eriophyoidea) are described from Rubia tinctorum L. (Rubiaceae) in the south-west of East Azerbaijan Province, Iran: Leipothrix retidorsi sp. nov. and Aculops rubitinctus sp. nov. This is the first record of the genus Leipothrix from Rubiaceae and the first record of Aculops from the genus Rubia. http://zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:F080405B-D6B0-4E4D-B568-09A504E68C77

ABSTRACT The oribatid mite family Arborichthoniidae (infraorder Enarthronota) has been represented by a single species, Arborichthonius styosetosus Norton, 1982, known from a few, isolated collections in forested regions of North America, China and Japan. Herein, we describe a second species, Arborichthonius azarbaijaniensis Lotfollahi & Movahedzade sp. nov., on the basis of a single adult collected from agricultural soil, below the disturbed layer of a wheat field in the Marand region, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. It is easily distinguishable from the type species by several characters relating to setal form, and represents the first record of Arborichthoniidae from the Middle East. The first distribution record of A. styosetosus from New Hampshire (USA), as well as notes on morphological variation, is also presented.

Two new aceria species (acari: Trombidiformes: Eriophyoidea) from Ajabshir, Iran

Sadegh Tajaddod; Parisa Lotfollahi; Enrico de Lillo

Abstract Two new Aceria species were found in a survey of the eriophyoid mites in the Ajabshir region of the East Azerbaijan province (Iran). Aceria halocnemi Lotfollahi & Tajaddod sp. nov. was collected on Halocnemum strobilaceum (Pall.) M. Bieb. (Amaranthaceae) and A. loborectiangulae Lotfollahi & Tajaddod sp. nov. was collected on Atraphaxis aucheri Jaub. & Spach (Polygonaceae). Both species are herein described and illustrated also by means of scanning electron microscopy. They are the first eriophyoid species recorded on plant species of the genera Halocnemum and Atraphaxis.

One new Aculops species (Trombidiformes: Eriophyoidea) from Ziziphus jujuba Mill. (Rhamnaceae) in Iran

Asiyeh Salari; Parisa Lotfollahi; Ali Mehrvar; Fatemeh Houshyari

Samplings were carried out on jujube, Ziziphus jujuba Mill. plants (Rhamnaceae) during mid-May 2016 in Jiroft region of Kerman province, Iran, and one new Aculops vagrant species was recovered and then hereby is described, illustrated and named as Aculops konari Lotfollahi & Salari sp. n. coming from the Persian common name Konar given to Z. jujuba. The new species shows few similarities with Aculops privae Mohanasundaram, 1980, but these two species distinctly differ in some details of prodorsal shield pattern, number of the empodial rays, dorsal and ventral semiannuli number, dorsal semiannuli ornamentation and length of setae sc, d and e. This is the first record of Aculops mites collected on a Rhamnaceae plants. In addition, a key to the thirteen eriophyoid mite species collected on Ziziphus plants worldwide provided on the base of their descriptions and a table of information about their type host, type locality and habitus are provided.

Contribution on Aceria spp . (Acari: Trombidiformes: Eriophyoidea) from southwest of East Azerbaijan province in Iran: new records and description of two new species

Parisa Lotfollahi; Enrico de Lillo; Karim Haddad Irani-Nejad

Abstract During a survey on Eriophyoid Mites in southwest of East Azerbaijan province (Iran), Aceria zygofabae n. sp. and Aceria alkannae n. sp. were found on Zygophyllum fabago L. (Zygophyllaceae) and Alkanna bracteosa Boiss. (Boraginaceae), respectively. They are described and illustrated here. Four further Aceria species were collected and identified as A. eucricotes (Nalepa, 1892), A. cynodonis Wilson, 1959, A. chenopodia Xue, Sadeghi & Hong, 2009 and A. tristriata (Nalepa, 1890) (protogyne and deutogyne). Aceria cynodonis is a new record for Iran Eriophyoid fauna whereas the other species were found for the first time in East Azerbaijan.

Adelphacarus reticulatus sp. nov. (Oribatida) and other palaeosomatid mites of grassland and agricultural habitats in East Azerbaijan Province, Iran, with notes on Adelphacaridae

Parisa Lotfollahi; Elnaz Movahedzade; Roy A. Norton

ABSTRACT Adelphacarus reticulatus Lotfollahi sp. nov., the second known species of the oribatid mite genus Adelphacarus (Adelphacaridae), is proposed based on specimens collected from 40- to 75-cm depth in sandy clay loam soil of a natural grassland in the Marand region, East Azerbaijan province of Iran. It is distinct from the type species, A. sellnicki Grandjean, in having the sensillus broadened and curved in the distal half, a posterior notogastral shield with distinct irregular reticulation, the presence of an aggenital plate, differences in various setal lengths, and a richer leg setation. The distribution of A. sellnicki is reviewed, showing that the family is widespread, but not previously known from Asia. Various family-group classifications of Adelphacarus are also reviewed, and the validity of the name Adelphacaridae is supported. Other palaeosomatans represented in a general study of grassland and agricultural soils of the Marand region include Ctenacarus araneola (Grandjean), Gilarovella demetrii Lange, and Beklemishevia sp. (all Ctenacaridae), and two distinct morphospecies of Aphelacarus (Aphelacaridae). http://zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:A484DEF5-A3A3-45D0-AABD-B9282E621885

Two new Aceria species (Acari: Trombidiformes: Eriophyidae) from Hilevar village, East Azerbaijan, Iran

Parisa Lotfollahi; Karim Haddad Irani-Nejad; Enrico de Lillo

Two new Aceria species of mites (Acari: Eriophyidae) including Aceria spanda sp. nov. and Aceria longisolenidia sp. nov. are described from Peganum harmala L. (Nitrariaceae) and Verbascum speciosum Schrad. (Scrophulariaceae), respectively, in Hilevar village of East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. This is the first record of an eriophyoid mite from the family Nitrariaceae and on Verbascum speciosum in the world and the first record of an eriophyoid mite on Scrophulariaceae in Iran. A key to the Aceria species collected on Scrophulariaceae is given. http://zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:1E0F442F-1EA5-481E-B17F-6D620E2AB5EC
