girls affective well-being compared to traditional PE and a Class-control group. Consequently, it appears that the effects of physical activity should not be generalised across activities. With competing demands on childrens free time physical activity, particularly physical education, it has to be made appealing to girls. The use and promotion of gender typed activities in schools might be an important strategy in turning young women on to a lifetime of physical activity.
