Abstract We discuss the characteristics of the decays B→Dτν and B→D ∗ τν, with particular reference to probing form factors that are inaccessible in the eν e and μν μ modes. Features discussed include the τ : e ratio, the τ spectrum and the τ polarization.

(p)−p total cross section well up in the TeV range with values of about 180 mb reached at 100 TeV and 316 mb at 1000 TeV. Use of this locally, relatively strongly rising cross section in the dispersion relation leads to evaluation of the real to imaginary part ratio ϱ, for the forward scattering amplitude up into the TeV range. This quantity increases; we obtain ϱ=18% at 40 TeV. On the basis of a physical picture involving the growth of average multiplicities, it appears possible that asymptotic, bounded growth for the cross section may be reached only at collision energies in the vicinity of 1000 TeV. In this domain, certain global measures of partonic behavior come close to the behavior of the produced physical hadrons.

A new structure for the high-energy diffractive scattering amplitude is derived in two complementary ways (one of them recently revealed as due to Richard Feynman). Total cross-sections increase, due to a blackening of the interaction and also due to an effect which leads to an increase in the effective interaction area at fixed opacity. These features are dynamically related to the dominant high-energy process of multiparticle production.

Abstract We consider a contribution to the ΔQ =− ΔS transition K 0 → π + l − v l obtained by combining K 0 → π + π − with π − → l − v l , and find Γ( K 0 → π + μ − v μ ) Γ( K 0 → π + μ − v μ ) = 1.1 × 10 −12 . The ΔQ =− ΔS amplitude can interfere with the ΔQ =+ ΔS amplitude for right-hande μ − . The amplitude ratio is nominally 10 −6 , but is strongly enhanced in the neighbourhood of the pion pole ( s μν ≈ m π 2 , and in configurations in which the π + and μ − are antiparallel in the lepton CM frame. We comment on the effects of ΔQ =± ΔS interference on the charge asymmetry in K L → π ± μ ∓ v .
