Falls on elderly people represent a significant health problem where having a permanent care personnel attention is the unique effective method to avoid them. As more is investigated on causes originating falls, more is known about pre fall conducts. This project studies in-bed patient behaviour with the purpose of detecting a fall before it happens, sending an alarm to the complete system. The work presented in this article is still being developed within the framework of INTEK projects founded by the Basque Government, in cooperation with Atica Innovation Company.

New advances in biosensor and electronic technologies will merge in new health assistance paradigms strongly based on the remote Biomonitoring. Biomedical circuit and systems have much to say on this, as for example the central venous catheters (CVC). Central venous catheters are commonly used in clinical practice to improve a patients quality of life. Nevertheless, there remains a large risk of infection associated with microbial biofilm (about 80% of all human bacterial infections). The standardization bodies, the radiofrequency devices and the biosensor technology are taking their positions, and the integration of all that effort is the work proposed in this paper. An ultra-low power active medical implant is presented for in-body monitoring of Electrical Bioimpedances (EBI) based sensors. A detailed and exhaustive lifetime evaluation has been done based on two typical monitoring parameters: the frequency of the internal sensor measuring and the frequency of external communication requests. The results show up to 20 months lifetime powered with a 50mA coin-cell battery.

Nowadays the use of wireless technologies provides a great benefit to the society. This article shows a wireless sensor network for Intravenous Dripping System, which can detect when an intravenous liquid, provided to patients in hospitals, run out, as well as detecting obstructions in the catheter. This way, the attention in sanitary centers is more efficient and immediate, as the observation of the state of the container will not need human supervision. The work displayed in this article is still being developed within the framework of INTER projects founded by the Basque Government, in cooperation with Atica Innovation.

Recent advances in the field of wireless sensor networks (WSN) include the creation of a new kind of these networks, called body sensor networks (BSN). These systems have been proven to be an enabling technology for the application domain of unobtrusive medical monitoring. In this paper a novel algorithm is proposed, which covers one of the main technological lacks regarding BSN: the mobility of the network itself. These algorithms have been proven using a BSN applied to the monitoring of the gait of patients affected by Parkinson disease (PD). This work is being developed with the participation of the University Hospital of Navarra (CUN).
