Methods for Native Land Use and Occupancy (Luo) Research

Paul Charest

The paper presents the principles of LUO research by giving an overview of native land use and occupancy studies. This leads to a general overview of LUO research methods, and concludes that land use and occupancy research methods first elaborated for the study of Native hunters and gatherers can also be used for the study of reindeer herders and hunters, and that of non Native people practicing hunting, fishing, trapping and gathering acitvities in rural or remote regions of northern European coutries.
