The Absorption of Sound in Suspensions and Emulsions. I. Water Fog in Air

Paul Epstein; Richard R. Carhart

The suspended particles are approximated by spheres and the diffraction problem for a fluid sphere in a fluid medium is solved taking into consideration viscosity and thermal conduction. The results are discussed numerically for water droplets in air and a satisfactory agreement with Knudsens attenuation measurements in water fog is found.
