Chapter IV: Counselors and Their Preparation

Research on the preparation of counselors during the period covered by this REVIEW—more plentiful than in the previous three-year period—has been largely concerned with attitudes, concepts, and perceptions, and in some instances with changes occurring during preparation. For the most part the methodology used in these studies has been sophisticated and meaningful. Such studies have been possible because more resident counseling students have been available than in previous years. The NDEA Counseling and Guidance Institutes continue as a most vital influence on the education of counselors and account for the large number of full-time counseling students available as subjects for research.
