Abstract— The fabrication of full-color RGBW OLED displays using a white emitter with RGB color filters has been previously described. This paper discusses the effect of several display-system factors on the important RGBW OLED display performance attributes of power consumption, lifetime, and perceived image quality. These display-system factors include the spectrum of the white OLED, the white OLED structure, the color-filter selection, the subpixel aperture ratios, and the pixel arrangement (including sub-sampling).

This paper describes Eastman Kodak Companys new color filter formulations for use in White OLED displays. The new filters deliver a substantially higher color gamut compared with commercially available LCD filters at nominal thickness, and substantially higher efficiency and lifetimes, when compared with thickened versions of the same LCD filters..

In many display systems, it is desirable to reduce power to the blue primary for the purpose of reducing system power and improving system lifetime. An algorithm is discussed for reducing blue intensity as a function of saturation. Also discussed is the effect of this reduction on perceived image quality.

The color characterization of organic light emitting diode (OLED) display technology is a technical challenge that must be understood. This paper will present the methodology for a full-color characterization of a prototype, which uses Kodak OLED technology. The color characterization will be centered on achieving an aim D65 white point at a luminance level of approximately 100 cd/m2. Such a color characterization reveals the neutral scale and color reproduction characteristics of the OLED. This paper will present the results of software implementation techniques that enhance the overall color reproducion performance of the Kodak OLED prototype.
