LMDQL: link-based and multidimensional query language

Paulo Caetano da Silva; Fábio Santos Souza; Valéria Cesário Times

The current commercial and academic OLAP tools do not process XML data that make use of XLink. To develop OLAP systems for helping in the analysis of such data, this paper proposes an analytical query language, namely LMDQL (Link-based and Multidimensional Query Language). Before presenting LMDQL, a multidimensional data model based on XLink is given. Then, the LMDQL syntax is detailed together with its operators and a discussion on its processor architecture. Finally, a case study based on XBRL Dimensions documents is given. XBRL can be seen as a standard used in the publication of financial data over internet and contains linkbases based on XLink.

XPath+: A Tool for Linked XML Documents Navigation

Paulo Caetano da Silva; Valéria Cesário Times

Links are basic elements in the World Wide Web. The use of links in XML documents goes further than in the WWW, since XML links express the semantics of a relationship. XLink has been proposed by the W3C as a standard for representing links in XML. However, most of the current query languages found in literature, like XPath, do not support navigation over XML links, making its adoption difficult by software developers. In this paper, an extension for the XPath query language is proposed, namely XPath+, which provides a means of navigating through both internal and external links. Particularly, both the syntax and semantics of XPath+ are given, along with some results derived from the implementation of our work.

Analytical Processing Over XML and XLink

Paulo Caetano da Silva; Valéria Cesário Times; Ricardo Rodrigues Ciferri; Cristina Dutra de Aguiar Ciferri

Current commercial and academic OLAP tools do not process XML data that contains XLink. Aiming at overcoming this issue, this paper proposes an analytical system composed by LMDQL, an analytical query language. Also, the XLDM metamodel is given to model cubes of XML documents with XLink and to deal with syntactic, semantic and structural heterogeneities commonly found in XML documents. As current W3C query languages for navigating in XML documents do not support XLink, XLPath is discussed in this article to provide features for the LMDQL query processing. A prototype system enabling the analytical processing of XML documents that use XLink is also detailed. This prototype includes a driver, named sql2xquery, which performs the mapping of SQL queries into XQuery. To validate the proposed system, a case study and its performance evaluation are presented to analyze the impact of analytical processing over XML/XLink documents.

A Service Framework to Audit Sustainability Reporting based on GRI Rules

Marcio Alexandre Pereira da Silva; Daniela Costa; Paulo Caetano da Silva

In last decades, environment degradation has been increasing gradually changing the management of companies, which have been stimulated to report sustainability indices to prove the made efforts. In order to demonstrate these indices, Global Report Initiative (GRI) has adopted XBRL technology for preparation of sustainability disclosures. However, stakeholders still face problems to execute continuous audit efficiently on these reporting, due to several involved information systems. Besides conducting a literature review, this paper proposes the adoption of a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), as from a LMDQL-based service framework to audit sustainability reporting in line with XBRL and GRI rules. For that, it is presented a process to audit GRI-based sustainability reports. This proposal decreases integration challenges of the audit information systems, bringing efficiency in interations between data providers and consumers.

XLDM: an xlink-based multidimensional metamodel

Paulo Caetano da Silva; Mateus Silqueira Hickson Cruz; Valéria Cesário Times

The growth of data available on the Internet and the improvement of ways to handle them consist of an important issue while designing a data model. In this context, XML provides the necessary formalism to establish a standard to represent and exchange data. Since the technologies of data warehouse are often used for data analysis, it is necessary to define a cube model data to XML. However, data representation in XML may generate syntactic, semantic and structural heterogeneity problems on XML documents, which are not considered by related approaches. To solve these problems, it is required the definition of a data schema. This paper proposes a metamodel to specify XML document cubes, based on relationships between elements and XML documents. This approach solves the XML data heterogeneity problems by taking advantages of data schema definition and relationships defined by XLink. The methodology used provides formal rules to define the concepts proposed. Following this formalism is then instantiated using XML Schema and XLink. It also presents a case study in the medical field and a comparison with XBRL Dimensions and a financial and multidimensional data model which uses XLink.

An Analysis of the Cloud Computing Approach to SOA

Tâmara Batista Reis; Paulo Caetano da Silva

Technological development and popularization of the Internet has provided increased opportunities for Web use since data storage until providing services. In this scenario the Service Oriented Architecture emerged as an architectural approach to service-oriented enterprise systems, whose focus is on service definition, service interfaces and behaviors. In turn, with the aim of providing services that can be since the services offered to the end users that hosts your personal documents on the Internet until companies that outsource the entire IT infrastructure to other companies, the proposal of Cloud Computing (Cloud Computing) becomes a new paradigm of Engineering Service-Oriented Systems. This paper presents an analysis of the proposed Cloud Computing and SOA, identifying the main characteristics of each one, the relationship between them and the different points. Key words: Service Oriented Architecture, Cloud Computing, IT infrastructure, database, management systems. K-SEO: A TOOL FOR ANALYSIS OF KEYWORD OPTIMIZATION FOR SEARCH ENGINES

Luis Cesar Costa Vasquez; Paulo Caetano da Silva

This paper presents the development of a tool to assist the process of web pages optimization for search engines, called K-SEO (Keyword SEO). The tool was implemented to experimentally determine the percentage of keywords that a web page must have in order to assure best ranking on search results. Besides, it is proposed to establish weights that indicate the relevance of each component to a specific search engine. In the development of K-SEO, it was chosen to initially build an engine for processing and extracting data of each analyzed HTML page code, and after that, develop the analysis and density comparison components and perform weights determination. In this work, it was presented basic concepts of optimization pages by keyword manipulation, related tools, design of the proposed tool, architecture, use cases and logic view. Finally, it was presented a case study demonstrating the obtained results using the K-SEO in a real scenario.

THE INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTING CONVERGENCE UNDER XBRLPERSPECTIVE

Izabelly Cabral da Silva; Paulo Caetano da Silva; Luiz Gustavo Cordeiro da Silva

Large companies normally set headquarters in a country and open branches in others, which involves having to adapt to different accounting practices. The procedures vary because of cultural traces and the businesss strategy. However the essence of the accounting is the same. With the aim of reducing the costs of adaptation of accounting standards, there is a worldwide trend for standardization of procedures. Financial reports made under the same guidelines assist the document comparison and greater transparency to the foreign market. This paper discusses the importance of the unification of the formats of presentation and disclosure accounting together with the XBRL, a technology that is being adopted as standard for the exchange, storage and dissemination of financial information. An analysis of the the arrangements made, until this moment, to incorporate the international standards to Brazilian legislation, with a survey of possible benefits.
