What do you do to start reading advances in modern tourism research? Searching the book that you love to read first or find an interesting book that will make you want to read? Everybody has difference with their reason of reading a book. Actuary, reading habit must be from earlier. Many people may be love to read, but not a book. Its not fault. Someone will be bored to open the thick book with small words to read. In more, this is the real condition. So do happen probably with this advances in modern tourism research.

The growing digitalization and virtualization process which currently characterize the world economy create a wide variety of economic activities in both a real and a virtual dimension. This fact seems to imply a declining impact of territoriality on economic relations and the development and proliferation of virtual territories which tend to question the epicentre of the economic relations and decisions at different territorial levels. Globalisation leads to processes involving a change in the perception of distance (the stretching of all kinds of social, cultural, political and economic relations across space and time), and time-spaced compression (the apparent annihilation of space by time as a result of a wide variety of media and communication technologies) as speed-distance reconfigures many of assumed correspondences between social space and physical distance (Doel and Hubbard, 2002). The global economy is an increasingly symbolic space-economy. On the other hand, the added competition within the European Union boundaries, among cities and regions, creates a dispute for visibility and for recognition of the quality, differentiation and competitiveness of their territorial economic specialization and institutional density.1 Due to the growing competition between local and regional territories at different territorial scales many regions and cities, around the world, constantly try to successfully compete for attracting

The Algarve region has always showed a close relationship with the sea as a result of its excellent natural conditions, historical and cultural reasons, and notorious know-how related with traditional maritime activities, such as fisheries and fish processing, and naval industry; more recently, nautical activities, such as tourism and recreational boating, have been gaining increased importance. The region is also well infrastructured in terms of public R&D institutions which are important cornerstones of the regional and national innovation systems. Through surveys carried out over a population of firms related to fisheries, aquaculture, fish processing and trade, nautical tourism, naval construction, and repair and shipping, we intend to: (1) characterize the innovation processes adopted by the Algarve’s firms of the maritime economy and evaluate some of the main outputs generated by R&D activities promoted by the regional innovation centers; (2) analyze the potential externalities linked to the production and dissemination of information from knowledge spillovers and knowledge networks; and (3) assess the strategic interest associated with the use of knowledge-intensive service activities regarding their role as sources and/or facilitators of innovation in customer organizations, or as carriers of innovation, when they help in transferring knowledge between or within organizations.

The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the role, effectiveness and added value of public policies supporting locally-based networks for entrepreneurship and innovation in rural areas. The effects and impacts of public policies to support innovation and entrepreneurship in peripheral rural regions are often weak, diffuse and difficult to measure accurately. Therefore, and from the perspective of a case study, based on the LEADER initiative - links between actions of rural development approach in Portugal (Alentejo region) an attempt is made to assess direct and indirect impacts, the systemic effects of these policies and the effectiveness and added value of their effects. The LEADER initiative was launched in 1991 by European Commission as a result of growing concern about the future of rural areas. This approach to the subject of rural development by this instrument of public policy intervenes in the regions, notably, through cooperation between network agents and territories and encouragement of entrepreneurship.
