Flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) have been designed to meet market requirements that demand products that are quality and ready to deliver. In order to meet the market requirements, the methodologies used in the FMS scheduling must consider a highly dynamic environment, where it is often necessary to meet or to react to uncertain demands and to get better use of its resources. An on-line scheduling procedure based on fuzzy logic is proposed in this work, whose main characteristic is shop floor tasks scheduling using production rules of an expert to meet several measures of performance. A simulation study was carried out with the objective to verify the applicability of the proposed approach, using a simulation tool integrated with a decision making system (DMS) based on fuzzy logic.

The S&OP process, like any business process of strategic or tactical level, requires having its performance measured so that, through the monitoring of these measurements, improvement actions for the factors affecting their performance can be created. The models for performance analysis in the literature failed to identify the most relevant causes of inefficiency to the process and do provide a way of measuring the process performance. Therefore, this paper presents a proposal for a quantitative model for the analysis and performance improvement of the S&OP process based on the diagnosis and reduction of its most important inefficiencies.

Many companies that have adopted the ERP R/3 system by SAP and need to upgrade this technology have faced substantial human resource and structural upgrading requirements. The long time of the project, the amount of financial investments, and internal workforce required for the job are usually similar to those of the original ERP implementation. The purpose of this paper is to analyze an upgrading of the versions of the ERP R/3 system in a beverage company. Firstly, a literature review was conducted to present an account of theoretical concepts of ERP, and a questionnaire was then created for data collection. This paper shows the results of a research that investigates the behavior of seven critical success factors for the implementation of ERP systems described in the literature during the upgrading of a SAP R/3 system, verifying if the demands are justified.

Supply chain measurement is a complex activity due to the broad taxonomy of variables (quantitative or qualitative; financial or non-financial, and others). This scenario results in a vague and subjective process to evaluate performance. Accordingly, the fuzzy logic seems to be a viable approach to measure Supply Chain Performance. This work proposes the creation of a simulation environment, developed on FuzzyTECH platform. It is based on a hierarchical model of SCOR metrics, which aims the assessment of the supply chain performance. The goal of such model is to evaluate systemically the supply chain performance establishing the cause-effect relation can be between performance attributes and levels 1 and 2 of the SCOR metrics. The findings showed great consistency when compared to the SCORmark approach suggested by the Supply Chain Council for a benchmarking process. The model is expected to be a useful tool in the supply chain performance diagnosis and improvement process contributing to strategic supply chain management decision-making processes.

Despite the SO and the most sophisticated ones are based on operational research techniques inserted in Advanced Planning Systems (APS). The literature review on theory and computational techniques used to aid the S&OP process identified a lack of studies related to the use of System Dynamics. Additionally, the review indicates the need for economic and financial analysis integration studies during the preparation of aggregates plans and the use of probabilistic variables in the process enabling the statistical analysis in order to provide more reliable plans. Another relevant issue observed is that managers involved in the S&OP process do not always have a global vision of all variables and constraints involved in the process, therefore, the techniques and tools used to implement the S&OP process do not provide a holistic view of the activities and variables involved. Hence, this paper proposes a System Dynamics Model simulation that provides a holistic vision for the S&OP process, allowing the integration of finance processes and the use of probabilistic variables. The evaluation of the simulations results performed with the model, supported by a design of experiments (DoE), shows that the generated plans are compatible if compared to business procedure, with the advantage of dealing simultaneously with economic and financial analysis and still allows the generation of numerous scenarios of S&OP plans.

Sugarcane industries usually deal with several operation problems mainly due to seasonality. On the other hand, they also face many administrative difficulties; particularly when it comes to issues related to and manpower employment and control which require a broad range of skills and abilities, from a simple manual labor to jobs skilled trade jobs. These factors associated to the fact that sugarcane is a permanent crop can lead to cost accounting problems. The purpose of this study is to use the action research methodology as well as the methods and techniques of Business Processes Modeling to identify manpower cost drivers and to support the development of a distribution and allocation automation system for cost accounting. The method of action research used was based on that proposed by McKay and Marshall, which proved efficient and effective in diagnosing organizational problems and providing solutions.
