The intention behind this study is to present the general character of the changes affecting Polish sparesorts after 1989. In 2014, 44 localities (or parts thereof), and the Wieliczka salt mine, held the statusof spa resorts while the Lower Silesian Voivodeship was characterised with the greatest concentrationof spa facilities. Referring to the statistical data, reports published by GUS – the National StatisticalOffice and Ministry of Health, as well as the subject-related bibliography and their own in-situobservations, the authors illustrated the infrastructural condition of the selected spa resorts, andthe use of the same. By the term “infrastructure” the authors understand an accommodation basecombined with elements of spa treatment as defined in related legislation. Special attention was paidto sanatorium activities through analysing the changing number of sanatoriums (the most commontype of spa treatment facility) and spa hospitals starting from the mid-1990s. Secondly, the changingnumber of patients visiting particular spa resorts was presented. Have any noticeable quantitive andqualitative changes occurred in Polish spa resorts in connection with the political, economic and socialtransformations taking place during the last quarter-century? Which of these spas benefitted best fromthe system transformation period, becoming leaders on the domestic spa market?

In the colonial era, the French Republic, which currently possesses thirteen overseas dependent territories, created an empire extending to every part of the globe. The present-day Overseas France comprises areas of various status and autonomy. The topic of the article are the French overseas departments and territories (DOM-TOM), which constitute an integral part of France and the European Union. The article presents the characteristics and evolution of the DOM-TOM local government. It defines the notions of department and overseas territory and explains differences between these two units and their metropolitan counterparts. It presents the genesis and shape of Overseas France, of which the DOM-TOM is the biggest component from the point of view of both territory and population. The article was based chiefly on Polish and French academic publications, as well as legal acts and statistics. Obviously, it provides only a general outline of the problem.

In the following text, an attempt was made to present the conditions for entrepreneurship trainingand to answer the question of spatial variability of entrepreneurial attitudes in France. The problemanalysis was made on the basis of literature on the subject and statistical data derived from the Frenchgovernment. With regard to the performed analyses, it should be noted that, despite the changesimplemented in recent years in entrepreneurship training (mainly developing the spirit of entrepreneurship),teaching in this area is still insufficient, especially in respect of today’s economic challenges. In France, there are significant disparities in manifestation of entrepreneurship, which for thepurpose of the analysis is the establishment of new businesses. These disparities were most evidentin an extreme situation, at the beginning of the global financial crisis in 2008. The most entrepreneurialregions were large urban centres, regions with a high share of high-tech industry and coastalareas. Comparing data on the size of start-up companies with the data on the participation of SMEsin the economy of the region and the share of population with higher education shows the influenceof these characteristics on the entrepreneurial attitudes of the French population.

The intention of the article is to present the transformations in the diversification of the economic structures in overseas France, the DOM-TOM (Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana and Reunion) in comparison to metropolitan France, during the global economic crisis. This article is an attempt to answer the question: whether, and to what extent the financial crisis of 2008 has affected the overseas economy and to what extent the changes that were observable in the last several years in the industrial production structure and services such as the third phase of the industrial revolution, have been affected in the aftermath of the global recession. Reflection of the progressive transformation in the overseas departments of France is the gradual reduction of employment in agriculture and growing employment in industry and services as well as the development of technologies de pointe (high-tech industry). An example of these changes is the tourism industry developed since the 1960s, that today is trying to become the fundamental substrate of the economies of the Overseas France. In order to illustrate the economic activity of these territories, the following factors were analyzed: the increase in the unemployment rates and changes in size and structure of employment, including changes in the volume of self-employment and business bankruptcies during the period before and after 2008.

The socio-economic, cultural and technological transformations, characteristic features of the globalization era, result in altering the ways in which tourist and recreational services are rendered, leading to the formation of the so-called mega-tourism trends. At present, tourism has become one of the fastest developing economic branches in many countries around the world. This dynamic development includes, among others, SPA and wellness and outdoor physical activity sectors. Slowly giving up their therapeutic functions, spa resorts aspire to expand their tourist and recreational infrastructure through the organization of ski lifts and slopes and development of other sport facilities. The intention behind this study is to analyze the theoretical assumptions pertaining to health tourism and active recreation in Poland, where the potential of such economic activities is still not fully used. The impact of natural factors on the development of health and mountain tourism and accompanying activities was presented on the basis of Krynica Zdroj located in the Malopolska province. Having reviewed the local development strategy, the impact of tourism on the activization of the city and region economics was determined.
