Metrological evaluation of a 3D electrical capacitance tomography measurement system for two-phase flow fraction determination

R. Wajman; Paweł Fiderek; Henryk Fidos; Tomasz Jaworski; Jacek Nowakowski; Dominik Sankowski; Robert Banasiak

The industrial diagnostic and monitoring systems still require new methods offering new possibilities of non-invasive observation and analysis of the two-phase gas–liquid mixture flows. This paper demonstrates a new measurement system dedicated for non-invasive void fraction calculation and flow structure identification in vertical and horizontal pipelines. The study of the metrological validation of the designed three-dimensional capacitance tomography measurement system is discussed here. This research includes the 3D ECT sensor structure optimization process, the metrological evaluation of the image reconstruction accuracy and the developed liquid void fraction calculation method efficiency, in comparison with other common techniques. As a result of the performed analysis the advantages of the designed 3D ECT measurement system for non-invasive real-time dynamic flow process identification were discussed.

Clinical Activity and Schedule Management with a Fuzzy Social Preference System

Pawel Wozniak; Tomasz Jaworski; Paweł Fiderek; Jacek Kucharski; Andrzej Romanowski

This work covers the design of an inference system for hospital use by suggesting an automated approach to managing hospital schedules and surgical teams. The authors present a solution for advising head nurses on proper surgical team compositions taking the complex nature of social relationships into account. This paper illustrates an interdisciplinary attempt at solving a persistent problem within a clearly defined and unique environment. Knowledge from the fields of computational intelligence, fuzzy logic, ubiquitous computing, interaction design and operations research is utilised to aid medical professionals. An innovative use of fuzzy logic methods in a real-life application is proposed. The solution is evaluated through simulations.

THE FUZZY SYSTEM FOR RECOGNITION AND CONTROL OF THE TWO PHASE GAS-LIQUID FLOWS

Paweł Fiderek; R. Wajman; Jacek Kucharski

In this article the fuzzy system for the two phase gas-liquid flows recognition based on the 3D tomography data and the research facility context information is described., The system is also specialized to control the research facility in basis of the fuzzy algorithms and generated diagnostics signals.

Modelling interpersonal relations in surgical teams with fuzzy logic

Andrzej Romanowski; Paweł Woźniak; Tomasz Jaworski; Paweł Fiderek; Jacek Kucharski

This paper reports on the design and development of a novel interactive system for managing this cooperation between remote wards in a childrens hospital. This work focuses on the design of a decision-making system that aids in assembling surgical teams. Surgical team rosters were modelled using fuzzy inference methods in order to include existing personal preferences and to achieve greater efficiency in using hospitals resources. The design of the system is based on user studies and simulations were performed to test the feasibility of the solution. In this interdisciplinary endeavour, the research team combined knowledge from the fields of interaction design, ubiquitous computing, operations research and fuzzy modelling to tackle a real-life problem in a medical safety-critical setting.

Crisp and Fuzzy Classifiers in the Two-Phase Gas-Liquid Flow Diagnostics

Paweł Fiderek; Tomasz Jaworski; Robert Banasiak; Jacek Kucharski

Abstract The following paper presents results of common clustering algorithms use, both crisp and fuzzy, for flow pattern recognition of two-phase gas-liquid flows observed in horizontal pipeline. Obtained results of HCM, FCM, and kNN clustering algorithms were presented in a form of confusion matrix and compared via its prediction performance.
