Within the frame of decision aid literature, decision making problems with multiple sources of information have drawn the attention of researchers from a wide spectrum of disciplines. In decision situations with multiple individuals, each one has his own knowledge on the alternatives of the decision problem. The use of information assessed in different domains is not a seldom situation. This non-homogeneous information can be represented as values belonging to domains with different nature as linguistic, numerical and interval valued or can be values assessed in label sets with different granularity, multi-granular linguistic information. Decision processes for solving these problems are composed by two phases: aggregation and exploitation. The main problem to deal with non-homogeneous contexts is how to aggregate the information assessed in these contexts? In this paper, taking as base the 2-tuple fuzzy linguistic representation model we shall develop an aggregation process for dealing with non-homogeneous contexts. In first place, we shall develop an aggregation process for combining numerical, interval valued and linguistic information, afterwards we shall propose different extensions of this process to deal with contexts in which can appear other type of information as intuitionistic fuzzy sets or multi-granular linguistic information.

The need for achieving consensus in group decision making problems is a common and sometimes necessary task in a myriad of social and business environments. Different consensus reaching processes have been proposed in the literature to achieve agreement among a group of experts. Initially, such processes were guided by a human moderator, but afterwards, some proposals to facilitate such a process arose by automating the moderator tasks. However, not many consensus support systems have been developed so far, due to the difficulty to manage intelligent tasks and cope with the negotiation process involved in consensus. This paper aims to present an initial prototype of an automatic consensus support system, developed by using the multi-agent paradigm that provides intelligent tools and capacities to tackle the inherent complexity found in this problem. To do so, we focus on the consensus model considered, the multi-agent architecture designed to develop such a system, and the ontology used for reasoning and communication tasks.

The use of enterprise resource planning (ERP) as a foundation for the integration of the complete range of business processes and functions, is clearly useful and economically profitable in most very large organizations which manage a great deal of data in their information systems. However, the decision of installing an ERP system in all the companies is not always so clear, it will depend on the size, future profits and other features of the company. Therefore, different parameters (features, aspects) will be evaluated to make a decision about the suitability of the ERP system. These parameters might have different nature or the knowledge about them could be vague or imprecise. Thus, this implies that it would be suitable that the evaluation process can manage heterogeneous information. In this paper we shall present a fuzzy evaluation model to evaluate the suitability of an ERP system based on a multi-expert decision-making (ME-DM) process that is able to deal with heterogeneous information.

The fuzzy linguistic approach has been applied successfully to many problems dealing with qualitative aspects that are assessed by means of linguistic terms. The use of linguistic information implies in most cases the need for using fusion processes to obtain aggregated values that summarize the input information. One important limitation of the fuzzy linguistic approach appears when fusion processes are applied to problems in which the linguistic information is assessed in linguistic term sets with different granularity of uncertainty, i.e., different cardinality; this type of information is denoted as multi-granular linguistic information. This limitation consists of the difficulty in dealing with this type of information in fusion processes due to the fact that there is no standard normalization process for this type of information, as in the numerical domain.

In group decision making problems is common the necessity of achieving a consensus before making a decision. Many consensus reaching processes have been introduced in the literature but not many intelligent systems have finally been implemented to deal with such processes. In this contribution an initial prototype of a consensus support system supported on a multi-agent paradigm is presented, showing the system architecture (set of agents, behaviours and relationships) and a preliminary ontology to represent the problem knowledge and used for the agent communication.

Decision making is a usual process for human beings in their daily life. The complexity of real world decision making problems imply the necessity of multiple points of view. Since experts may provide their assessments by using different domains according to their knowledge area and background. Different approaches have been introduced in the literature, nevertheless, none of them has considered the use of hesitant information. In this contribution, we propose an approach that manages hesitant heterogeneous information such as hesitant fuzzy sets and hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets with other information as numerical, linguistic and interval-valued. A hesitant heterogeneous decision making model is also presented.

Collaborative Recommender Systems (CRS) are very useful tools that help people to select items in a huge search space, based on the idea that people with similar taste of preferences in an area make similar decisions concerning to that area. There are many commercial applications that show the utility of these systems. However, there exist areas in which these systems have not applied yet. In this contribution we want to introduce OrieB, a CRS working in the Academic Orientation domain in order to support advisors helping students of secondary school to make decisions about their academic future. OrieB will use students’ marks as input data in order to suggest their academic possibilities by providing several recommendations using the fuzzy linguistic approach.

Maintenance is considered a key issue in hypermedia systems. Common sense indicates that it might be possible to understand the web’s content without any knowledge representation, but not to automatically manage and support it. Assuming that the development and maintenance of hypermedia systems is dynamic and evolutionary, this implies a continuous process of change throughout their life cycles. Here, we review a conceptual hypermedia system model, the Semantic and Evolutionary Model for HyPermedia systems, tomaintain its consistency during its life cycle. Thismodelmakes a semantic representation of the information system, offering an architecture whose components are formally defined by using the underlying semantics. In this article, we focus on formalizing the building of hypermedia information systems. To do so, we propose a novel axiomatic approach based on the graph theory that ensures their consistency. The major objective of this contribution is to describe a computational and mathematical proof that determines the set of axioms that are valid to keep the integrity of the information system. These axioms are able to generate the combinations that are valid by means of logical deduction.
